Free Agent Left Tackles

A good center and LG will make our young LTs look a lot better. Plus they will have another offseason under their belts. A cheap vet for backup is all we need at LT. Little/Daley, vet LG, High pick C, Turner and Moton will look a lot better next year. We would have looked a lot better if our line stayed healthy. Moving everyone around each week is a big reason why they underperformed so much.

There's speculation Whitworth might retire. I believe he was actually the Rams most penalized lineman this season.

From what I recall, Donald Penn didn't look like anything special either.

Greg Robinson has always been terrible at tackle. It's why teams decided to try him at guard.

Over 90% of rookie left tackles struggle mightily as rookies, even the ones who end up in the Hall of Fame.  It's by far the hardest position to master as a rookie.

I'm not saying Daley or Little will be Hall of Famers or even adequate starters in this league, but it's ridiculous to try to grade them so early on

Dennis Daley was the highest graded rookie left tackle in the NFL this year, and he didn't even have a good grade.  But even a 1st round prospect like Andre Dillard really struggled.

I think people are just assuming Hurney drafted them so they must be garbage, whereas other fan bases with rookie left tackles understand they need to show some patience.

My question is do we need a LT or a legit center more? Getting rushed right up the gut is the worst thing for a qb, no matter who you are. Maybe Paradis is still healing , who knows. But he definitely didn’t perform like anyone expected.

LT. I think we can deal with Paradis or at least he is much easier to replace. Quality left tackles are one of the hardest things to find in the NFL currently.

Whitworth has recently publicly stated that he was planning on playing in 2020.

Penn isn't anything special, but he is still better and more durable than what we currently have.

There's definitely no way I would feel comfortable going into next season hoping that either Little or Daley pans out.

Or anther option is to just simply get a better left tackle. If it's just for 2-3 seasons to improve, so be it. It gives much more time to evaluate those players when they aren't getting the QB shelled. It also allows us to possibly move Little or Daley inside to help our guard situation. That's pretty much my point, we don't have to "give up" on them. We just need to find some better players to allow them the time to develop or find them somewhere they can help us(even if it is just as depth).

Geoff Schwartz has an "outside the box" suggestion...

She can definitely slide and mirror. Won the battle at the point of attack. Looks to have a mean streak too.

Hurney has already moved her onto the draft board.  He may have to pull off second round trade to ensure he gets her though.
