Wirfs plays RT, does he not?

Wirfs plays RT

Has played LT as well for Iowa and Played better at LT than the current 3 years starter at LT (who is also projected a round 2-4 guy)  the other guy just strictly a LT (similar to what people said about Little).  So theyve kept him at RT just to keep both on the field.

I will go against the grain with my reasons.  Feel free to obliterate, because it will sound crazy on the surface.  Assuming Thomas, Burrow, and Young are gone.

ROUND 1: Jeff Okudah, CB, Ohio State.  If CB Okudah is on the board, he is the first round pick.  Understand that we will have addressed DL in free agency, so we can take the shut down CB over the DT (Brown).

Logic?  We were asking our QBs to come from behind without an offensive line.  The impulse here is to take Wirfs, but he is a RT.  Instead, take the shut down CB and play him opposite Bradberry, with Jackson inside.  We suddenly got very good in the secondary.

ROUND 2: Creed Humphrey, OC Oklahoma.  A big, tough, road grading center, our biggest need on the offensive line (not LT--yet).  Creed is an immediate upgrade, and should help keep bull rushing DTs from forcing the QB out of a collapsing pocket.  This allows our OTs to develop instead of drafting new tackles before the Tackles you drafted last year can develop.

ROUND 3:  Lucas Niang, OT, TCU.  "Niang is a high-upside starter in the NFL. Niang's mobility would make him a great fit in a zone style system and his length and range as a pass blocker make him an attractive option for teams.  "  This pick replaces D. Williams and provides depth/competition.  Could he win a T job and send Little or Moton inside?

Again, not knowing what we are going to do on defense limits confidence in selecting DL.  However, if we can target an area to add a key free agent or two, the DL is the best place because there is no developing talent behind the free agents.

OL, OL, OL

Whether you're protecting Cam, or the next QB, build the damn OL. If Cam isn't healthy, all aboard the big ugly draft to bolster the lines, then let Kyle Allen tank 2020 and hand me Trevor Lawrence with a newly rebuilt line and a year to gel, CMC and Moore still young, and whatever other pieces we have at the time.

Watching today I truly feel that C is our biggest need on the OL. Paradis was missing blocks and assignments completely making the whole oline look worse. I usually dont see Centers taken in the top 10 so I think we take one in the second considering our 2nd is almost a 1st. I really think another year for our tackles, a center, and a LG will make our oline look alot better, but nothing but a top 10 pick is fixing that run defense.

    • It's been many a year since we were in December talking about how games mattered for something other than draft order. This crazy, mixed up, unpredictable, maddening, uplifting and teeth gnashing season has certainly not been boring.
    • If you look at Brown and Horn's contracts, expect to pay above what he is likely actually worth. This is the Panthers suckage tax. Ultimately, much like Derrick Brown, he has steadily improved over time and that's what you want out of your young first round draft picks. He was one of the biggest and most important question marks coming into the season and he has answered it conclusively. He is "the guy" at LT. Great news, one less position of extreme importance to have to attempt to remedy.
    • This is maddening because, well, it's so up and down. When the kid's on, he can be great. When he's mediocre, we can still win based on a strong running game and good defense. When he's bad, and over his history he's this more than not, then it's a sad show that no one could win with. How can anyone know what is going to happen right now? Really. It's like picking one flake in a snow globe and shaking it once a week... there is no telling where it will end up. Things I did see on Sunday from Bryce: his teammates love him; he can make the big throws with good protection and good effort from his receivers. He isn't afraid to run. He can rise up against the best in competition (but he can also sink to the level of bad competition).  All I can say is if Canales goes with an aggressive game plan for Bryce that leans on a hot-hand running game, the team can beat anyone. If there's any wishy-washy play calling, then Bryce melts and couldn't beat anyone.  Maybe the person Bryce needs to win over more than anyone is Canales.
