Rhule: Ideal Situation Needs To Have QB

If the Patriots can win with Brady throwing the ball 2 seconds after the snap and pretty much doing nothing, the Panthers can win with Cam delegating the work to everybody else on offense .. unlike with Rivera where Cam was the entire offense.

Not in Cam's DNA.  Comparing Cam to Brady is probably not the best foundation for a longevity discussion.

When we drafted Cam, I thought he might play for 10 years.  I still do.

Not in Cam's DNA .. lol .. Cam is great enough to evolve .. you don't think Cam is able to get the ball out quickly to weapons? That is all Brady does .. delegates the work to players who are actually good.

I'm not really worried about if Tepper wants Cam to stay, Rhule wants Cam or if Cam wants to be here. All of those are an obvious yes.

I'm concerned about whether or not Cam will be willing to play on a 1 year lame duck deal with no guaranteed money and if not, will the Panthers be willing to give him at least a 1 year extension to protect him.

Until I hear news about that, I'm on pins and needles.

And when did I make any statement about the time he would miss? He was injured in August. If he takes 11 months to heal, so be it. If he takes 11 months from his surgery date(in Dec), then the decision to move on will probably already be made, won't it?

Isn't that the whole point? Deciding whether or not you're going to commit $20M to a player not yet recovered from a surgery versus drafting the next QB? That's my only point in this- whether or not a lisfranc is career ending is a medical opinion. But a lot less serious foot injury ended my triathlon days a few years sooner than I planned.

oh look! buildings!

It’s ok. I didn’t know what it was at first either, now that I do, I say it all the time.

Might want to read the NIH version.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27166291

"More than 90% of NFL athletes who sustained Lisfranc injuries returned to play in the NFL at a median of 11.1 months from time of injury."

So, you're willing to pay Cam $20M and wait for him to maybe come back by June or July? Or better yet, go ahead and draft Tua, who's already had 2 ankle surgeries and a hip surgery.

And if you really believe a lisfranc isn't career threatening, you had your head in the sand when Greg Olsen went down... twice... for the same injury.

The Panthers training staff did Olsen no favors, absolutely none

Glad Vermillion is gone

So?

No one knows where Cam’s shoulder is at period.

I would offer that Tepper knows, since he's the one who pays him.  Do you not think the owner has regular contact with Cam?  And further, to my train of logic, if Rhule wanted a job with a proven QB in place, do you think he and Tepper would not have touched on that subject in their negotiations?

So...if THEY are confident that Cam will be ready to return this spring (and show me how anything the last 24 hours indicates they have doubts), then why do you, and all the many other orthopedic surgeons on this site, feel so sure he can't be??

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
