what Saints and Falcons fans are saying about the Rhule hire

I always find it interesting to read opposing fans perspectives on other teams coaching hires or player acquisitions/draft.

so some are obviously laughing we gave Rhule 7 years and 60 million. But I found these tidbits to be fun to read. I’m just trying to be optimistic as well.

By far the best coach they’ve had in years. Depending on the staff he gets, they’ll be on the up and up soon

I’ve been a Baylor fan for 35 years. If this is true, he’s dead to me. They can have him.

Panther somehow made a solid move.

I think this is a very good hire honestly. I know people will watch the Georgia game and be like "LOL HE SUCKS" but reality is, he took over Baylor right after one of the worst college scandals in recent memory and made them competitive. He helped turn Temple into a respectable program as well.

Why is the NFL so in love with Matt Rhule - what am I missing?

He is a great leader of men.  That’s something that translates from high school to college to NFL.

£.   Temple was 2-10 when Rhule was hired.  Two years later they were 10-3.  A year later 11-2.

£.   Baylor was 1-11 when Ruhle was hired.  Two years later they were 11-1.

The fact both programs turned so quickly shows he isn’t simply winning by adding better recruits.  He is taking the old regime’s players and turning them into conference champions.  That speaks to great coaching.  Coughlin loved him when he was on the Giants staff.  This will turn out to be a very good hire for Carolina

Its crazy, he couldnt hold a very depleted georgia offense and couldnt get anything going against an equally depleted defense in a bowl game. I usually dont hold much stock in a single game, but that was ridiculous.

Baylor really had no business being 11-1 and in the Sugar Bowl. Typical “sum greater than its parts.” I’m not sure about the fit in Carolina but Rhule is a good coach

This. Baylor wasnt 11-1 talent and it showed vs UGA. Honestly it should have been worse than it was.

Based on Rhule's track record, Carolina will suck in 2020 and 2021 and then be dangerous in 2022.

Seriously, he's a guy who can win with lesser talent, but that salary seems 50% too high.

Yep. I hate this hire! I think he's gonna be a great NFL HC

Why does anyone care how much he is getting paid? I mean anyone. It literally affects nothing.

I mean it doesn’t. But he’s being paid like a top 6 coach in the league and he’s never coached a down of nfl football. I get why people are like wtf but ultimately you’re right, it doesn’t matter. It’s just a matter of perception to some people.

I don't think we'll suck as badly as people fear in 2020. I don't think we'll be in a Super Bowl, or even the playoffs necessarily, but we don't have the dearth of talent that either of his college teams had. This is the NFL. No one has a completely loaded team. We've got a lot of good to great players on both sides of the ball. We've got high draft picks, and let's be real, Tepper didn't just pay this guy 60MM guaranteed to let Hurney overrule his draft choices.

I would say by mid-season 2020, we'll start seeing Rhule's system, whatever form that takes, begin to mesh and win us some games.

Are you starting to warm to the choice to hire Rhule?  I am.

Going to wait and see how the offseason pans out before I make any decisions on my opinion. Right now it just seems like Tepper got a boner for this guy and threw so much money at him he couldn't say no. Who knows how something like that will turn out

    • I feel like this trade just lives rent free in people's heads and keeps morphing into different things. First thing is that the rumored trade was for future firsts. They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
