Seahawks co-director of player personnel Trent Kirchner has emerged as the favorite to be the assistant general manager

Everyone was convinced Tepper was just waiting until after the draft to hire someone like Kevin Colbert and fire Hurney

But it's pretty clear Hurney is here to stay long term and we're looking for someone who he's comfortable with.  In the Athletic piece about our head coaching search, Tepper makes it seem like he really relies on Hurney to make decisions for him and trusts him above all else.

Gotta free up that cap space, if you're gonna pay RW $35 million/year.

They actually have the 8th most cap space($68 million) headed into 2020.

Also, @bobowilson you are exaggerating how poor they have done in the draft and free agency. They do actually have some nice talent on that team, just not as much as those loaded "Legion of Boom" days.

The Seahawks have demonstrated the best model of consistently winning in the NFC. Surely the guy has learned something there.

It says he's on the pro personnel side, and the Seahawks have made their fair share of bad pro personnel moves.  So hopefully he's learned what NOT to do. LOL

I mean we all pick on our buddies, sometimes in public. Tepper’s tone sounded like good natured ribbing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tepper’s fit looking younger wife stayed on him about watching what he eats cause we all get a little thicker around the middle as we age. If Hurney is sitting there scarfing meatballs nonstop, he’s more likely to notice and give him a little ribbing about it.

Unfortunately for us, I think this implies he’s pretty comfortable with Hurney.

Hurney just went through a public divorce and abuse scandal so he probably doesn't give a flying F about his body right now

The Seahawks have done a pretty bad job of putting talent around Wilson for the past 4 years.

Russell Wilson has been the best QB in the league, so it creates a perception of competency around that organization.

Its the Aaron Rodgers effect.  As long as he's in the game, the other parts and pieces seem to make sense.  If he wasn't there, they would look like a JV team just like Green Bay.

Meh, Russell Wilson's greatness obscures how poorly they've done in free agency and the draft since 2013.

A lot of the executives who were responsible for drafting all their great talent during their Super Bowl run are long gone now (such as Scot McCloughan).

They don't have a good roster outside of QB1, and haven't in years.

Part of the secret sauce Seattle used to build up their team was Pete Carroll had been scouting and meeting with many of those players in those drafts since they were kids.  Pat Kirwan is friends with Pete, and Pat tells the story of when Earl Thomas committed to Texas.  Pete called Pat up and said "keep an eye on that Earl Thomas kid I just lost to Texas.  I think he's going to be the next Troy Polamalu."  Years later when Pete took Earl over his own USC safety, people were shocked.  Pete wasn't, he knew exactly what he wanted.  As the years have gone by, the Seahawks have lost alot of Pete's advantage he had on with these newer players.  He's still a heck of a coach though.

If we make that hire, it will be the sign that this is Hurney's team. Let's call it what it is.

Wow.

I've said from the start it was going to be Hurney's team.  Said he'd have control over hiring both the coach and the assistant gm. He has controlled both as far as we can tell, Tepper has kind of confirmed that during the presser.

Dear Lord Baby Jesus, please let this happen.

He's got too much control here for that to really happen. Plus Tepper can refuse to allow him to interview.  Why would you let the GM who literally just put together the coach and assistant gm interview for another team.

Wow.

Yeah, Rhule was Hurney's best, last hope of not having to deal with McDaniels and he pulled it off.

However, to be fair, those guys up in Buffalo were Hurney's as well and they seem to be doing a relatively good job.

Seattle has been to the playoffs 8 of the last 10 years, if this guy can bring that sort of consistency here to Carolina, I'm all for it.

Especially if it paves the way for Hurney's retirement.

    • If Canales comes back and Bryce doesn’t I would probably prefer to bring in 3 guys he likes from around the league or maybe outside a top ten pick and work through them, give that a shot. Because if we win a few more games we won’t be in the running for the top rated QB prospects anyway.
    • You mean tepper but yeah I agree about rhule   Baker is a top 3 potential qb that is play for mvp and he is doing it with a slew of injuries
    • There’s too many to reply to so I’ll just say a couple more things then I’m out: 1. It hasn’t been both ways and that’s the point. People saying stuff like “too bad Bryce Young didn’t make that tackle” is a direct result of the ridiculousness of blaming Bryce Young for literally everything. I remember one game day thread a poster unironically blamed Bryce Young for JT Sanders flipping onto his own neck and injuring himself. That post was pied. I literally just read a post blaming Bryce Young for XL dropping a ball on a would-be game winning drive last year. This past week, when Tmac bounced a ball off his hands for an interception, Bryce Young was immediately blamed in the game day thread. Alternatively, people who try to give credit to Bryce Young are immediately told that to credit Bryce Young is taking away credit from Rico Dowdle, OL, whoever, and that they shouldn’t be talking positively about Bryce Young because he doesn’t deserve any credit. 2. Yes, there have always been bad posters, the difference is that back then they were largely derided. Bryce Young’s rookie season, when many of us were simply pointing at the train wreck of the whole team and saying it was maybe a little tough to evaluate Bryce Young when he had no time to throw and slow receivers, and just saying basic stuff like “Bryce Young can physically throw the ball further than 20 yards.” There was an attempt made to limit all those opinions to a single thread, by a mod. This is like saying lunatics running the asylum is normal because there have always been lunatics in the asylum. The difference is before they were patients, now they’re in charge. 3. I know for a fact I am labeled as one of the “Bryce Stans” by many of the usual suspects, but the fact of the matter is they have no idea what my position is on Bryce Young because any attempts at nuanced discussion in the past have been so completely pointless due to never being able to get past the hyperbole. How can we have a serious conversation if you insist he is physically incapable of throwing a football 20 yards? Or if you insist that he somehow duped the Panthers into drafting him just by drinking water? Or if you insist that he should be able to succeed behind one of the worst offensive lines I’ve ever seen (rookie year, not now). And I’m not the only one, there are many who have left the huddle because of it and started a discord server, I’m just too lazy for another app.
