Tepper wanted McDaniels, but then got wind he wasn't all-in

I've been trying to get the scoop on why Josh McDaniels fell from Tepper's pedestal so fast, and this is the only info I could find.

Like, when a man goes to a table of women at a club and asks a woman to dance and gets rejected, and then gets rejected again by another woman in that same group, Tepper didn't want him because he didn't pick the Panthers first.

"'What I've been told is Josh McDaniels was David Tepper's No. 1 head coaching choice hands down for the Carolina Panthers. The Carolina Panthers were not Josh McDaniels' No. 1 choice. They weren't even his No. 2 choice,' Fallon said on her podcast, The Courtney Fallon Experience. 'Cleveland was his No. 1 choice.'"

So we may not know whether the "[Fug] off" comment ever took place, but we do know that it probably wasn't what either really wanted due to McDaniels waffling---well, not really waffling, but not making us his priority. What we do know is---if nothing but in his mind---Tepper said, "fug that!"

FYI this passes the smell test of coming from McDanels’ camp. Fact is if Rhule wasn’t our top candidate after his interview and didn’t sell Tepper on him being he only choice, McDaniels would have at least interviewed with us. We didn’t even interview him ultimately. I don’t see why people are hung up on him still. Rhule is our guy, and rightfully so.

Interesting, but I must say your example about being rejected is not something I am familiar with---I never made it to the second rejection because the entire table started laughing during the first one...Sad, but look who's laughing now.  Sniff.

I am not sure if Rhule had Carolina #1, before the visit, but based on his description of the visit, that changed.  He has familiarity with North Carolina (WCU), and his family (son specifically) seemed disappointed when Rhule told him that they were not going to Carolina (had not been offered the job yet).

Here is the interesting part to me:  McDaniels has a history of having conflicts with people--he is an X and O guy.  Pretty much known as an A hole.  Rhule is not an X and O guy--he leaves that to his coordinators--he is a people person.  He builds relationships through a shared vision.  Without a leader like that,  all of the Xs and Os in the world won't save you.  You need a motivator, man you would die for.  In other words, these men are polar opposites.  Maybe Tepper just did not know what he wanted until he met Rhule.

Josh McDaniels has been passed up for many decent jobs that are open, want to know why? ask the Colts. McDaniels agent quit after McDaniels backed out.  There is nothing you can say again and be tanken for 100% after what he did to the Colts. I imagine many NFL owners didnt forget that.

Browns may sign him just because they arent getting much interest because they fire people too fast. So it may be a match made there.

LOL at people who thought the Browns was a more attractive job than Carolina, any halfway decent Head Coach is gonna see the 12 head coaches in 20 years and say nope! thats an average of 1.6 years, pretty much you're expected to be fired Mid second season. lol

Just something to talk about. Men love back story and gossip almost as much as women when it comes to certain things.

Funny how people change their striped suit and don those hindsight glasses once fate takes its course.

I'm always consistent. I think it's kinda silly honestly. the huddle can be more petty than a girl dumped right before prom at times. it's quit funny.  I never understood the stalker like obsession this place has with past players.  Unless they are someone of note Like Steve Smith or Mike Minter for example I honestly dont care if the go on to be the best player in the NFL and the reason anyone cares is beyond me.

    • Yeah not taking that Burns trade was infinitely stupid. We seem to be finally righting the ship but, imo, our biggest issue since Tepper bought the team has been coaches and management having a poor understanding of where our own roster is at. Starting with that idiot Rhule drinking his own kool-aid and thinking he was going to come and take the NFL by storm with Teddy freaking Bridgewater. Could have just kept Cam on the last year of his contract and gone from there but noooo that fat slob had to feel like he was the big man on campus. First round wizard Marty Hurney who, for whatever his faults, has a freaking HOF track record with first round picks, wants to trade up for Hebert but fat fug Rhule says no. Then we kept Rhule for 3 years which is absolutely unbelievable to me and every single year he treated our roster like it was just one player away trading our draft picks for Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who have proven since leaving that Matt Rhule was an even bigger idiot of a coach than we thought. We finally seem to understand we are a ways off and trade CMC, but then we don’t take the actual good trade for Brian Burns who was never better than a run of the mill situational pass rusher. Then we botch the self scout of our OL (and team) after Wilks, even though they were bad before Wilks simplified the scheme, thinking they can execute whatever the hell Reich and Brown were trying to do. So we win a couple meaningless games playing dummy ball and Fitterer thinks we’re a player away again. And nobody even considers that having the slowest receiving corps imaginable with Damiere freaking Byrd, who can’t even make it to the season before being injured and cut, as your only hope for speed, coupled with the worst pass blocking OL I’ve ever seen, might lead to titanic levels of disaster. The way Canales and Morgan have been adamant about constantly bringing competition at every position has been refreshing and made a huge difference. I was kind of worried that we had fallen into our old ways leading up to the draft with all the talk of defense only and worried that they might feel the offense was set. Very glad to see they were not complacent on that. My big thing now is I’m still wondering why Evero is still here. I can’t think of a single player who has gotten better under him, and the Broncos defense got better once he left. We’ll see.
    • really good interview that gives some insight into their decision making process in making up the schedules and the issues they run into with so many people broadcasting games now. also some interesting discussion on what they have going on and where they might be heading in the international games. vikings have 2 of them, btw. we might be seeing more of that.
    • wow i absolutely LOVED watching that.   will watch again...and again...and again.
