Should the Panthers go all in on Joe Burrow?

The obvious answer is NO but the hiring of Joe Brady changes that from a hard NO to a soft no.

One of the most successful QB/OC duos in college history.

I'm still no because of the QB talent in the draft and the possibility that Cam is back to Cam and maybe we find a vet backup. Plus I like draft picks.

Anyone want to make the case?

Also yes this is currently the topic on Speak for Yourself. Don't poo me.

I strongly suspect Cam playing for us long term just dropped almost to zero with Luke’s retirement.

But that aside, I don't favor going all in on Burrow because I think what it would take to get him would rob us of any chance of giving him a line that won’t get him killed. It’s hard to have a dynamic offense of your qb has to get rid of the ball in under a second or risk getting creamed.

The entire landscape of this rebuild hinges on Tepper’s decision on Cam.

If Cam is cut loose then I’d seriously consider trading up

We could have up to 70 mill in cap space to surround Burrow with proper pieces

Gotta be honest, the "proper pieces" that we would need to get to have a proper offense are linemen, and the recent free agent offensive linemen that have switched teams isn't real inspiring.

If you have his college OC and everyone is convinced he's an elite franchise QB, then yes.

With QB salaries these days, the value of a franchise QB on a rookie contract for five years is pretty much invaluable.

So you would give up nearly 2 full drafts for one player?  Think about how long it will take to build a team without a draft for 2 years.  No, you never give up that much for one player I don't care who that player is.  You guys are nuts.

I mean, the important guy we’re forgetting that we can work with the Lions to get is Tua.

if he checks out medically, then he is worth the trade up to 3 but I do get why many will exhibit caution. The talent with him is too good IMO.

Joe Brady and Tua Tag

What would it take to go from 7 to 3?

According to value charts, our second and a future 3rd-4th. I think that’s worth the risk especially if we’re trading Cam and getting more draft capital.

It won't to two entire draft classes. Per the trade value chart, it's roughly #7, this year's 2nd, and next year's 1st. Would I give up that? Yep.

Especially considering we'll get something back by then moving Cam. Who knows, maybe the Bengals would want Cam themselves.

True. Tua is a fantastic prospect IF he checks out medically.

I'm just going to struggle being sold on moving on from Cam due to injury concerns to make a big move on a college QB with serious injury concerns.

Well there isn’t going to be a ton of change in our OL.

Paradis - Turner - Moton probably aren’t going anywhere.

We just drafted Little and Daley. Daley will likely be our LG.

I personally don’t want to see us banking on Little being healthy. We could sign Conklin and move Moton over to LT or we could sign Castonzo and have Little back him up.

I keep seeing everyone screaming fix the OL but 3/5 of our line is most likely staying put. And the other 2 were just drafted so they’re most likely still high on them

Cam won't be traded.  He will be released and maybe you get 3rd next year but let's just drop this fantasy trade idea.  And Burrow will cost more than the value chart indicates you can bank on that.

This team is NOT one player away from competing.  They need way more draft picks than they have.

I agree with you, on who is staying, but that's still not "fixing" the line.  Trai isn't playing nearly as well as he did in years past, Paradis is flat out terrible, and we really can't count on Daley being a good starter.

We have a couple years to go to build this line correctly.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
