I fully agree. If Luke had been severely upset with the Panthers current situation and still thought he could play and not wreck his health, he would/could have asked to be traded and every team in the NFL would have been glad to take him in a heart beat.

He may know that, but I doubt that played a significant role in his decision. What I saw in that short video statement was a man who is very passionate about football and would love to keep playing but who believes that it's not a wise health decision to do so.

I do think the overall state of the team played somewhat of a role in the decision, but not Cam. If Luke believed we could win a SB next year, I think he might tough it out for another year or two. But he realizes this team is now in full rebuild, and he doesn't want to play for another 4-5 years and become a vegetable. Dude has had some scary concussions in this league, he made the right call.

Take recent injury out of it. Cam is a superstar in this league whether you like it or not. Buying a team and ejecting Lebron can't be good for business. You try and get the best and try to keep them. Luke is a superstar. The story is huge nationally.

Drew Brees was 24 at the time and had not been literally run into the dirt otherwise.
