Jabaal Sheard

Jared Patterson

Another guy I don't know why we aren't talking about more. I believe he may have been hurt for a good amount of last year? however, he is known for his run defense as an edge. I love Bruce/Mario, but I think we should only keep one of them and add Sheard. Our DLine coach just came from the Colts and he is close with Sheard. Sheard was their vocal leader on the Line and actually graded better than Bruce. He is a free agent and I doubt he'd cost much. We already have our speed edge rushers, I think it's time we finally got a guy that can stop the run.

We need Vic Beasley. He’s better than what Panthers fans give him credit for.

I wouldn't mind this and love his age, but I do know his run defense grades are terrible

lol

anyway I doubt Sheard is gonna wanna come here, we still don't know if we're gonna try to compete or rebuild. If he's down for a possible mentorship role, sure, but what is he gonna do here on a 1 year?

I like the idea especially as a run defender. But you should know that people on here will poo on any idea which doesn't shout Superbowl contender. It's funny but if you read any thread on here it's full of posts predicated on our being a good team despite new coaches, record breakingly bad run D, and total uncertainty at QB.

Anyway on topic, I don't hate the idea, but If I were Matt Rhule I would go for a young team and clear the decks of some of the entitled underperforming guys on nice contracts. Snow said that's what he did with his D unit at Baylor. Therefore I would be against Sheard.

    • Not many are talking about this player. He played well as a rookie last year. If he refines his blocking, continues studying film, and keeps working hard, I can see him being the next Greg Olsen. I’m expecting 55 catches, 700 yards, 4 TDs this season.
    • I'm not a Bryce hater and I would 100% move on.  Especially looking at how the upcoming qb draft looks on paper.  Hopefully he continues to improve but if in 3 seasons you're still chasing average season numbers then he's not going to be the guy.  You've just got to keep taking swings until you hit.  Average qbs without any elite physical traits cant get it done anymore.  So this year Hopefully he continues to develop and is above average statistically.
    • Meltdowns???? He was pulled by Canales because he wasn't executing the game plan after 2 games into the season so he could watch Dalton execute the offense and show Bryce the windows available in the NFL, how to push the ball down the field and how to step up and move around when blitzed. When Young came back 5 games later he clearly watched and improved. Enough he was named the future starter. He doesn't have a history of  meltdowns nor is there any reason to assume he will have one. From what I have read he is mentally strong and emotional stable. He may have bad games down the road, everyone does. But this is all a learning experience for him and so far he seems to be making progress. I can understand being hesitant on anything Panthers, but Young has surprisingly been able to gain his confidence after a disastrous start. You aren't alone in being cautious but I think he is the future. I thought he was too small and too short to succeed in the NFL. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised last year and am optimistic about the offense for the first time since Wilks and Dalton were decent.
