Handing out a potentially massive salary cap crippling extension at a luxury position like running back sounds like the opposite of a rebuild. If we are being truthful it sounds more like a Jerry Richardson type of move so many have complained about over the years. Especially when you look around the league to see the teams that have won in the postseason are using 2 or 3 back sets, none of which are amongst the top paid at their position. The only team winning with one RB was the Titans, and they got eliminated fairly quickly when they finally ran into a more well rounded team in the Chiefs. Not to mention Henry will be hitting free agency and commanding a nice fat contract.

Teams are building for the future differently now.

You can’t lump CMC in the same sentence with terms like “luxury” and “RB.” He’s the definition of transcendental. Literally carried the entire team on his back, took like two plays off all season. Unmatched work ethic, leadership qualities, keeps his personal matters to himself. You can absolutely build around a guy like him.

CMC is a HOF caliber player that does a whole lot more than take handoffs. Even on plays he doesn't get the ball, he influences the defense. Hes a straight up offensive Weapon, and is worth keeping around.

If it were simply a one dimensional RB, Id agree with you, but CMC is a generational talent. that does it all.

Hes not just a RB. RBs don't catch 107 balls for 1000 yards.

As it has been told to me from a few very notable huddle members back in 2019, you have to remove your emotion from the equation in these discussions about players futures.

oh yeah I remember that.

That said, I feel like you can take 100% of the emotion out of this decision for a generational Marshall Faulk like player. Hes much, much more than a RB.

The Faulk stuff is cool. Comparisons and all that are subjective though. McCaffrey's career is unwritten. These next three or four years will define his career realistically looking at past shelf life averages for backs with similarly high amount of reps when wear and tear starts taking a toll. If we keep Cam for 2020 and possibly draft another QB to groom in 2021 then we could rationalize building with CMC. But if we do move on from Cam, it makes no sense to hitch ourselves to a huge contract right now when we would be minimum two or three years away from realistic contention.

I think we keep Cam. and make a push with him

im with you though, if its a complete trash and rebuild, go trade Cmc right now.
