McCaffrey vs Thomas

McCaffrey:

2,392 total yards

19 total touchdowns

115 first downs

81.7% catch rate

Thomas:

1,716 total yards

9 total touchdowns

91 first downs

80.5% catch rate

Where does Thomas beat McCaffrey other than receptions (which mean nothing)? How in the world could these people vote for Thomas over McCaffrey? It’s unjustifiable. You could argue Lamar for OPOY, sure. But Thomas over McCaffrey just makes no sense.

I get Lamar had a great season but he barely threw for 3k yards...in a passing league I get it he ran for 1200 but still. Kyle Allen threw for more yards in 2 less games lol.

But anyways onto the topic at hand yea McCaffery was robbed and 100% deserving of OPOY. The only reason we didn't go 0-16 actually

The Saints went 13-3 and we went 5-11. That shouldn't matter in an individual award but somehow it still does. You rarely see guys from bad teams winning these things.

Usually the best candidates for the award are in the playoffs, that’s just natural. And sure that’s fine to look at if the stats are at least somewhat close. But McC has nearly 700 more yards and over twice as many TDs. It’s just not even close at all. And that’s with McC doing it all by himself in an archaic offense and poor OL compared to Thomas with offensive mastermind Payton, HoFer Brees and an elite OL... It’s unfathomable.

I’d be completely fine if Lamar won it over McC, he has a case. But comparing these two, it’s just silly that Thomas even received a single vote over McC.

Racism works both ways. McCaffrey is a white running back. He will never get the credit he deserves. Just look at how stupid Booger and Kellerman sounded talking with Cmc the other day. Saquon and Zeke have never had a season even remotely close to what McCaffery accomplished and they were straight disrespecting him to his face.

If either zeke or saquon had Cmc’s season even with a losing record they would have run away with Opoty and Potentially MVP. Marshall Faulk who was the most recent 1000 / 1000 won an MVP and Opoty.

It’s because CMC is white. People still don’t want to believe that a “white” running back can be that great.

Ultimately despite some great performances from McCaffrey the Panthers were just getting taken to the woodshed too frequently. We finished the season on an 8 game losing streak. Eight. Games. It's not difficult to imagine why even CMC is being overlooked when there were so many more competitive teams than us and some that didn't even make the playoffs.

Lamar did lead the league in passing TDs though so it wasn’t just his rushing that got him MVP... He was dominant. And with some suspect weapons around him (probably better than Cam’s in 2015 but not by a lot...).

If you’re talking about MVP, yes that is all valid, since that’s about value and ultimately value is how you contribute to your team winning games. But for straight up OPOY none of that should matter one bit. What if you have a top 5 offense and a guy like McC is putting up crazy numbers like this and dominating, but your D is the worst in the history of the league and your team has very few wins? The results of the team (which includes defense) should have zero bearing on offensive player of the year.

Christian made the all pro team at 2 positions. He gets tons of credit.

    • It goes deeper than that for me. When I started watching the Panthers as a kid I fell in love with Mark Fields’ story during that SB run. He wore #58. Then TD wore it and kept the tradition of the being the soul of the Panthers. The next time someone wears #58 I hope brings that same spirit
    • T-Mac is a nickname, Tet is a shortening of Tetairoa. Like you said below... your name is Jonathan, I could see "Jonny" being considered a nickname, but Jon isn't a nickname, it's a shortening of Johnathan, see the difference? And if your mom named you Jonathan for it's biblical significance/meaning, because she was very religious, I think it would be different. T-Mac is Polynesian, so much in their culture has deeper meaning for them, particularly names.  So for his mom to feel this way, I highly doubt it's just because she likes the name Tetairoa and not Tet, it's much more likely than not to be because the name itself has a deeper meaning in their culture.   Particularly as T-Mac himself has often talked about how much his Polynesian heritage means to himself and his family. And no, I'm not saying all this because of how much he's my guy, if he was just "normal american" and his name was Jonathan and he didn't like fans calling him Jon, I'd probably just say tough poo.  It's that he's Polynesian and I know things like names have a much deeper meaning in their culture than they do in ours for the most part. For whatever it's worth, a quick google search.......
