(Updated) Combine: Let's talk prospects

*Updated.  Guys in blue are rising having looked really good.  Albeit, this is not in pads but still, they are rising.

Here's some guys to watch; feel free to add yours.

QB: Jordan Love (R1), James Morgan (R2-3), Steven Montez (Late Rounder), Jalen Hurts

These are the three QBs after Herbert that I find to have the best combination of intangibles, physical ability, and limited red flags.

Updated:

*Steven Montez ran a 4.68 40 at 6'4 231.  Looked it up and realized he was pretty hyped NFL wise going into his past season which wasn't bad just average so the elite prospects blew past him in hype.

*Removed Fromm, because he looked baaad

*Jalen Hurts also surprised many in the passing drills.  Dare I say take a swing on him in the 4th and don't bother with Allen or Grier?  Could also be a Taysom Hill type for us whilem developing as a QB with Brady.

RB: Darrynton Evans (R3-5)

Not a super exciting running back class but woah nelly do I like this kid.  Wouldn't mind taking a shifty RB late if Brady's scheme is going to be spreading things around.

*Update: Evans ran the 2nd fastest 40 for RBs

TE: Jared Pinkney, Cole Kmet, Thaddeus Moss, Harrison Bryant

I hope we land one of these guys.  I'm not a huge fan of the FA class minus Hooper and Henry.  Would rather take a stab at a rookie as there's been recent success with guys like Kittle, Waller, Andrews, Jonnu, etc.

*Update: Moss has a foot issue but should be fine, Cole Kmet looked good.

*Harrison Bryant looks like a legit TE.  Would love for us to take a look at him.  6'5 243, 4.73 40, great catching drills and impressed with his blocking technique.

WR: The entire group, particularly Jefferson (R2)

Seriously, this is a super interesting, talent packed group of wideouts with tall, shifty, speedy guys.  I however do believe Jefferson was such a critical part of the LSU offense that he's going to be hard to ignore.  I would love to somehow wind up with him Pick 2.  I also LOVE Brandon Aiyuk but unless we make moves he will be between our 1st and 2nd rounder.

My quick take rankings (Bolded my faves):

(1) CeeDee Lamb  (2A) Jerry Jeudy  (2B) Henry Ruggs  (3) Jalen Reagor  (4) Brandon Aiyuk  (5) Justin Jefferson  (6) Tee Higgins  (7) KJ Hamler  (8) Denzel Mims  (9) Peoples-Jones  (10) Shenault *I don't get the buzz, not a huge fan  (11) Van Jefferson   (12) Bryan Edwards   (13) Tyler Johnson   (14) Collin Johnson

I think we see at least 14 taken in the first 2 1/2 rounds.  This is seriously that good of a class.

C: Matt Hennessy (R3)

Temple center recruited by Rhule at the end of Matt's tenure.  I see him starting fairly quickly in the NFL and he would be a perfect OL target for us.

OT: Robert Hunt, Matt Peart, Hakeem Adeniji, Ezra Cleveland

Gave some of these guys looks.  Adeniji has started basically his entire career at LT for Kansas.  Could be a mid round tackle to consider and I'd definitely look at how he performs.

Hunt can play both interior and at the edge with really nice write-ups on him out there.  https://withthefirstpick.com/2019/10/22/2020-nfl-draft-time-pay-attention-robert-hunt/

I think he is a super interesting sleeper after giving things a glance. 6'5 ~330, interested in seeing his arm length and quickness in drills.

Interior DL: Justin Madubuike, Ross Blacklock, Neville Gallimore (Sleeper: Mctelvin Agim)

Kinlaw and Brown are the obvious top tier studs but these three are not far behind.  Love what they all bring and their drills and interviews could really boost their stock.

DE: Gross-Matos, Curtis Weaver, Khalid Kareem

These are the guys after Epenesa that fit more of the Base 4-3 DE mold that we simply don't have with Horton and Peppers gone.  Huge huge need IMO.  Unsure about our D scheme but we need the guys with the thick frames that play with their hands in the dirt.  We've got the EDGE in Burns/Miller/Haynes locked in.

Notable Rhule & Brady Connections:

Matt Hennessy (C) Temple - See above

Denzel Mims (WR) Baylor 6'3 215 - I've seen the chatter on him.  Has been shooting up boards.  Strong prospect with the affection of the new coach in town. Could be fun to add with Moore.

James Lynch (DE/DT) Baylor 6'4 285 - Tough tough football player for the DL.

Justin Jefferson (WR) LSU - See above.  Should be noted Brady was tightest with Chase & Jefferson on that offense and those two wideouts looked freaking incredible all season long.

So that's who I'm looking at; wanted to open things up and see who y'all have your eyes on.

**For more info on guys in particular, you can sort by position on this big board: https://thedraftnetwork.com/prospect-rankings

Cheers.

Folks, we've hit the week of the combine!  Here's some guys to watch; feel free to add yours.

QB: Jordan Love (R1), Jake Fromm (R2), James Morgan (R2-3)

These are the three QBs after Herbert that I find to have the best combination of intangibles, physical ability, and limited red flags.  The only one I would advise caution with is Fromm being somewhat physically limited arm strength wise but he's not some Jay Fielder or Matt Cassell.  If Morgan interviews well, I expect him to be ahead of at least Gordon and Fromm on some team boards.

RB: Darrynton Evans (R3-5)

Not a super exicting running back class but woah nelly do I like this kid.  Wouldn't mind taking a shift RB late if Brady's scheme is going to be spreading things around.

TE: Jared Pinkney, Cole Kmet, Thaddeus Moss

I hope we land one of these three.  I'm not going to dive into heavy details but yeah.

WR: The entire group, particularly Jefferson (R2)

So that's who I'm looking at; wanted to open things up and see who y'all have your eyes on.  I didn't do OT/OGs mainly because I'm just a bit too lazy to dig at the moment haha.

Cheers.

If he proves to be a guy who can catch onto a WCO and EP system fairly quickly, he could be very good.  I was super high on him coming into 2019.

If he shows out .. How high up he goes might be the story of the draft.

The combine won’t show it either way, but I still think Fromm will be an effective starter someday. Last years offense had no idea for GA. Fromm definitely regressed. Why is the question but he has that same potential as before. I hope he falls to 50 and the Steelers take him.

Not sure what to think of Fromm. I was very high on him after his rookie season but then he pretty much plateaued as a sophomore and then regressed as a junior. The physical tools are mediocre, but not necessarily red flag level. What red flags me is that he's always had a dominant running game to lean on, good talent at WR, and probably had the best OL in college football this season yet regressed anyway. Unless there's a good behind the scenes reason for that, that's a pretty significant red flag.

Yeah he's just weird for me.

At times, I feel like he could become an entirely respectable starter.  Better than let's say a Keenum; doing enough to get a team with enough pieces in place to the playoffs.  Problem is he looked iffy against the top schools.  His 2018 was really solid but he had bad games this past year.  Coaches and scouts tend to really like the guy minus the arm strength.

    • I know it a real homer take but Im not sure Id slam dunk take that list over Smitty.  Smith just played a different way, he had an ability to just take over a game as a matter of will.  The catch against the giants where he caught it and took a helmet that broke his arm mid air, the games against DeAngelo Hall, 05 Bears playoffs, Ice Up Son, the revenge game against us. Those other WRs may have better stat books but love him or hate him, good guy or bad, Smith just played a different game and when he did look out.
    • Absolutely would have to be anther young scorer with either ELC time or a long term contract...    Could see maybe Kyrou or Robertson.... But I really just dont see him being traded you dont trade your leading post season scorer on a long term deal when he isn't even in his prime yet..   not to mention unless you get more than one of those guys at best it would be lateral with unknown team chemistry.
    • was driving down a two lane rural highway this morning as was reminded of this thread.   Minding my own going 60 in the 55. This massive Chevy rolls up behind me so close all I see is grill. Along comes a passing zone and M firm in the right lane.  Does doofus drop over and pass me? Nope he backs off to a solid 2 second separation.   500 feet after the passing zone you can imagine where he was. Back up my ass.
