Panthers insight from a profile of Ron Rivera

Mr. Scot

We were told that there would be a long line of suitors trying to hire Rivera and yet ... he took the first job offer and the  OP article indicates that he never even talked to any other teams.

That implies that Rivera and his agent knew his true market value.

I predict he is in his last head coaching job.

Rhule’s 7 year contract gives him the same or even more power than Rivera. There is not one person on the football side that can’t be changed with one phone call or knock on the door.  For the time being he is judge, jury and executioner.  He’ll listen to others , but the final decisions are completely in Rhule’s hands.

All valid, but keep in mind this is the coach who said he's opposed to the idea of firing anybody.

I am beginning to believe there is some validity to this theory myself.

Good god, that was such a bunch of self-serving, history-revising bullpoo.

Many of y'all out there can continue to believe every bit of the "good guy Rivera" image, but its all the fugging result of friendly press and a P.R. machine.

Narcissist through-and-through.  Dude uses people up and spits'em out, all for the sake of the Great and Holy Ron Rivera.

Makes me wanna puke.

You need to visit the marble store dude.

A meeting with Gibbs, whom Rivera had met multiple times in Charlotte, crystallized his thinking regarding the job. Before the season ended, Rivera and Snyder were comfortable with one another.

Wut?

I'm interested in the interplay between head coach, GM and the scouting department. Sounds like Rivera went against the information provided by the scouting department, but couldn't convince Hurney to see things his way. Probably happened with Gettlemen as well. This would certainly explain, at least in part, why Rivera was so reluctant to play the young guys - he didn't necessarily want them in the first place.

I'm no advocate for Hurney, but believe the people he employs to get good intel on college players is suspect, at best. The idea that he does well in the first round is a misnomer, in my opinion. First round talent *should* be good (except if you are the Jets). My point is, if Hurney has had trouble finding talent Day 2 and Day 3 of the draft, he should have replaced personnel. I don't have a lot of confidence in this year's draft if it's the same scouting department he's had for the last few years.

I was always a bit frustrated with Ron's mediocrity, but had come to accept that as part of the NFL and Panthers.  But he lost me with that lame "Mr. Richardson on three" cheer.  It was a suck up move and indicative that Ron was part of the problem, ignoring things that may jeopardize his cushy status in coaching mediocrity. That's not a guy I could care about moving forward.

Happy for Ron. He finally gets to be a coach that doesn't have to always look over their shoulder. He is now in a place where he seems to have control over things he is supposed to control and influence. Carolina have him an opportunity to call plays and lead men character wise. Carolina media and executives never let Ron rest and enjoy his position. Happy for Ron. Panther fans really are spoiled and end for a rude awakening with a compelte rookie staff taking "over" lol

There's no such thing in the NFL as a coach who gets to "enjoy his position".

Every single one of them has to answer questions, and well they should, especially when they're not doing a good job.

Any notion that everybody should just sit back and be happy watching losing football is ridiculous.

I’m pulling for Ron to do well. He’s a good dude, and has shown he can do good things. We’ll see how he fares with a different F/O dynamic.

I also wish Ron well. It's unfortunate he went to a team with the smell and color scheme of bloody diarrhea
