Well he never said that Cam was the guaranteed starter so in reality no one knows but I think anything you could happen but I’m not sure but who knows

I'm optimistic. Never gonna bet against QB1

What happened is they tried to trade Cam while he is still recovering found out he had no market and now they realize trading up is also not realistic so they sticking with Cam Newton.

How do you go from non committal months ago to now oh yeah Cam is our guy.lol

Lets just hope they trade back now and load up on the Oline. Cam is gonna need it if he plans on bouncing back.

Tepper never said he was non committal. The media only chose to interpret it that way.

And if he would have came out and said - No our team hates Cam and we don't  want or need him back and tell you the truth I don't want to even coach Cam at all .   BUT what he did not say  is - Cam will be our Starter  .

Anything other then what was said would have hurt us with cam and or with other Teams  with whatever we do going forward/Trade/Keep/Let go / or

FLIP a COIN We are still in the DARK ..

Ps . looking at the 3 QB on our team ATM , I would have np saying Cam is my starter  Even a 1/2 broken Cam would be my starter over the other 2--

That's coaches speak. It also doesn't rule out a Sam Bradford scenario where a team loses their QB and gives WAY too much out of desperation.

We are not in the dark. What part of I would love to coach cam and expect him on the roster in September is in the dark.

I was in the belief Cam was gone until today. Even I know when to admit I was wrong. If Cam is cut (or traded for peanuts) after Rhule said that, I will REALLY question my investment in this team.

I'm not a Bandwagon jumper, but I'm not writing a check for $2,000 for 3 seats every March if the organization plays with us like that.

Edit: I will clarify, if Cam comes out and looks terrible in Camp, I can understand a decision being made because of that.

I can respect a man who can own up to being wrong, it's these guys that keep look saying " oh well he didnt day he was the starter starter" that urk me. It never made sense to me. Unless you think a free agent you can get is better than a possible healthy cam( there isnt one) or a legit qb will fall into our lap at 7(they gone). Then  with his 2020 salary he is a deal.

Common sense told me financially and from gm stand point you are in a win win situation, A cam plays lights out sign him for 5 years get the most out of him, B he gets hurt and u free of him and end up sucking anyway and go for a qb. Or you could be those oh trade him for some second third round picks guys which really aren't equal to what u would be giving up. Second round we got little last year 3rd round we got Grier. No way I would trade cam for those guys in comparison.

This is so odd---let's reconstruct the rumor mill:

There is an exodus of veterans who are leaving, retiring, not being extended.  Free agents are not being re-signed.

Speculation in the media: Cam is going to be moved too.  Marty and Tepper do not denounce this--they simply float the idea of a March demonstration of health.

Cam says he met with management and he will be playing

There are rumors going around that the Panthers are putting out feelers for a trade--they still have not closed the door.

All of the sudden, the team is coming forward and saying Cam is going to be on the team--but they do not call him their starting QB.

Huggers rejoice and call out others for being wrong in February.  They have reason for optimism, but it should be cautious because there are two things that have not happened yet--free agency and the draft.  However, they can now celebrate the fact that it does not seem likely that they cut Cam-he will either compete for the job or be traded, should someone make an offer.  That is possible after free agency and the draft.

The Panthers have shown no interest at this point in an extension.  That could change if Cam plays well.  However, they need to realize that Cam has few options right now--no trade partners probably means no negotiating power.  However, a good healthy season could create some interest in free agency. A bad season could end his career.

Speculation:  The Panthers (Tepper) may be tired of Cam's hesitation when it comes to surgically repairing injuries.  He waited until March on the shoulder a few years ago and missed part of camp/preseasons.  That messes up timing with WRs and RBs.  He hurt his foot in September, but had surgery in December, if I am not mistaken.  Not sure that this is making Tepper happy--this may not be it at all.

Does Rhule's suggestion that Cam "compete for the job" suggest that they are bringing in someone with whom he will compete?  Some say this dismisses the need to draft a QB---I am not sure that they will ignore the position--like we did the past two years--having nothing behind Cam.

I do not think this means Cam is the starting QB in 2020--it dismisses the cut possibility.  He probably will win the job if healthy--but if not--they will play someone who is. It could mean that they are going to keep Cam, draft a QB, and spend and draft defense.

Little at LT, Daley at LG, Paradis at C, Turner at RG, and Moton at RT---they could think that is enough?  I don't know.
