Comments from prospects about Panthers

Apologies if this has already circulated.  I find the Kinlaw quote very interesting, and I found the Herbert response, considering the Cam situation, to be equally if not more interesting.  It seems as though the Panthers might have asked him to keep it quiet---speculation on my part, but I have never heard of the meeting being kept "private." Perhaps Herbert wants it kept private for some reason.  However, he does not deny--and if he had not and wanted his visits quiet, might he have just dispelled the rumor at that time?  Kinlaw's response is the exact opposite of private (It could be a case of hoping your favorite, hometown team picks you and using the press to let the team know that you are interested in them more than the team is interested in you, but the Herbert quote is a bit odd. And what does he mean by, "They have some free agency guys...?"  https://nfltraderumors.co/2020-nfl-draft-prospect-visit-tracker/

I will note that I searched other sites and cannot find any evidence of any team having talked to Herbert, except one interview with King:

FMIA: Who’d you meet at the combine who was impressive, or who you really wanted to meet?

Herbert: “Coach McDaniels with the Patriots. [Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.] That’s a guy I’ve always watched, always looked up to. I love their offense.”

So imagine The Pats do like Herbert.  They pick at #23.  The Panthers at #7 might be willing to trade back if NE wants to get their guy.  If Love has indeed "leapfrogged" Herbert as CBS states in their talent evaluations after the combine, then it stands to reason that the Panthers could be sitting on a hot position.  For example, if the top 4 QBs are Burrow, Tua, Love, and then Herbert, and the Chargers pick Love, for example, the last of the first round QBs is sitting there at #7.  Indy, Tampa Bay are in play,  but if the Pats really want Herbert and he is the man left standing, it could relate to a boatload of picks.

Either we keep Cam and go DT with the first round pick, or we move on from Cam and get the QB of the future. There really isn't a middle ground.

I agree. Keeping Cam gives us an out, but if the QB is there, we could pull the trigger now.

Or, we move Cam, draft an OT at 7, IOL in the 2nd or a WR, start Grier, and go get our QB next year?

Maybe trade back a bit in the 1st to pick up an extra 2nd next season to use to move up if we happen to win more than 3 games?

We really have no idea what this coaching staff/front office will do...uncharted waters.

Herbert keeping panthers meeting a secret is interesting. Didn't he ball out at the combine?

He was solid, but word on the street is that Love passed him on some websites (CBS, is one, I think--not sure about ESPN).  Personally, I did not like Herbert at first, but the SR Bowl and his workout changed my mind.  Check out his combine numbers that were not related to throwing---he is an athlete-perfect size--and could flourish here.  I would say he is a better athlete than Burrow--and you see what Brady did there.

It is a bit interesting that he provided that answer but talked openly about meeting Josh McDaniels.

If we trade back with the colts and nab Kinlaw at 13 I will be a very happy man

That could happen. However, if we trade back with the Colts, it means there is a QB on the board worth taking at #7---at least to the Colts.  If we are looking to move Cam, how would anyone in the war room justify leaving a QB there to move back for a DT?

That reminds me of me---when I wanted Marcel Dareus over Cam Newton because I thought Clausen just needed some weapons and protection in year 2.  I was wrong and glad to admit it.
