Matt Miller: many sources around league believe Panthers will attempt to "tank" for Trevor Lawrence

So you're a Trevor Lawrence stan but also can't wait to push Newton out the door?

Well everything is explained now.

Its fan.  And it doesnt matter if I am a fan or not because he is the top prospect on the board right now.

And I am starting to think you have a problem with reading comprehension because you are doing these dumb strawmen and projecting things that I have never said.   I have said this 1000 times now on here but you just cannot comprehend.  I love cam, I love his game, the 2015 season is an all timer for me.  However the timing of all of this (his contract, his injury, Tepper, his surgery, etc) just makes it where the odds of Cam being our qb going further minuscule.  If he was in his 2nd or 3rd year on a  5 year deal then I would think the opposite.  But now it makes too much sense to move on from him rather than re-up on a 31 year old qb coming off major foot surgery and a chronically bad throwing shoulder.  It makes zero sense to trot him out there for one year.  It just doesnt.  I could be wrong for sure but one thing is we will find out one way or another soon enough.

Man, I’d like to know where some of y’all got those rose colored glasses.  This team sucked last season and many of the less sucky players will be gone to be replaced with what? Rookies and old guys ? This season upcoming is gonna be terrible.

Well if you are going to insult folks on here it probably would reflect a little better on you if you at least don't come off being illiterate.

Doesn't take much effort to insult someone that thinks actively tanking is a legitimate course of action for a franchise that still can't even notch back to back winning seasons.

Do you also believe in the tooth fairy or the easter bunny?

Sure do and I’m mostly correct.  This franchise had been mediocre for all but about 5 seasons.

I recall you being barely active if at all when we were winning.

Did you even post when we were 6-1 in 2018?

What about when we went to the playoffs in 2017 with practice squad wide receivers?

Their stats for 2019 are virtually identical and Sam did it with arguably much less talent around him AND in his first year. It’s not a stretch to suggest that he may indeed be better in the long term.

Lawrence has some pretty elite ball placement, seems to be a better arm talent and it quite a bit more mobile. Howell is clearly talented but IMO, Lawrence is very clearly the better prospect at the moment. It will be interesting to see Howell moving forward. I'd like to see him become a lot more accurate with the ball. That's one area what Lawrence has excelled at even as a freshman and being an accurate passer in college has been a strong predictor of being an accurate NFL passer.

The statistics are sort of irrelevant, IMO. College stats are not a strong predictor of NFL results. Additionally, while Lawrence benefited from superior talent, Howell actually benefited statistically from his team being so terrible. Lawrence was taking his foot off the gas in the 4th quarter of a few of those games, whereas Howell was fighting for wins and still airing it out. So, I'd say that kind of evens out over the course of a season.

If Howell is able to improve and maintain that kind of production in college, he'll definitely be a first round QB and possibly a top 10 guy.

Howell is already the top rated QB for the 2022 draft. If he keeps getting better over the next two seasons he will be the top pick.

    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
    • It was always a matter of time with Cam’s playing style and a shorter shelf life than passers that protect themselves. I suppose Cam could have still been playing in 2028 ten years after the hit took place, but he would need to have evolved as a quarterback and become more of a passer than the dual threat maestro he was. It’s sad because it makes us think of what could have been, but I do feel it was always a matter of time until all the hits took their toll.
