Only as a UDFA. I live in CO and have watched plenty of his games. Dude sucks. His workout warrior numbers will get him drafted. Hopefully not by us. I'd rather throw that 7th at a kicker.

Ha gotcha, those are the two most mentioned 3rd day QB names but hear ya.

After Cam, our two most succesful franchise QBs were a 4th rounder and UDFA so don't mind taking a shot.  I guess Allen could be fine again as backup though.  Not a huge need but I do like what I read on Morgan and we met with him after the Senior Bowl.

Stop with the tanking talk. If we were tanking we would definitely trade Cam and Trai would've been traded for picks rather than a 31 year old LT.

Rebuilding doesn't necessarily equal tanking.

the huddle doesnt understand logic. You will confuse them

All signs are indicating we aren't moving Cam. Some people will continue to desperately cling to that hope though.

It was a IF scenario Linny.. I typed "IF" more then 3x.. Treat it as a hypothetical question if it makes you feel better..

I like building the front 7 as well.. But my 2nd question is are you building a 4/3 or getting more pieces for a 3/4?? I think offense can use a FA TE, OG, and cheap vet WR signing.. Then middle round WR and OLine player in the draft..

I also think we might have to make a serious look at the secondary... Especially if Bradberry is gone..

I think we need to be targeting a Fangio type model where it's a Base 3-4 but we have a lot of looks with 4 down linemen.

So a 3-4 Base but you run a nickle package with 4 down linemen as much as the base package.

Rivera tried to do this with the wrong personnel and failed spectacularly.

The more forward thinking offenses hate dealing with it.

So we probably need a NT (plus cheap backup) type, maybe 2 3/4 DE types and Another MLB..

Danny Shelton, Futo - 2 guys around 6'3 up and 285 to 310 (FA and Draft player) and maybe AJ kelin or Shobert..

That's why I'm thinking the double dip at DL with a guy like Brown is ideal for building this defense.  He plays both fronts and at virtually every spot.  But yeah, wouldn't mind a more pure NT later or in the FA.  Keep Short who I think can be fine as a 3-4 DE but a DT in nickle.  We just need that supporting cast.  Bottom line, most defenses are hybrids nowadays and I really like the "anywhere" guy who can play even and odd looks.

Draft wise..there's just some damn good talent.

Multi-techs...Gallimore, Blacklock, Madubuike, Jordan Elliot (Love all of them)

Leki Fotu (NT), Davon Hamilton (NT)...good potential here.

Also, James Lynch from Baylor looks pretty interesting at 6'4 289.  He played that 3 and 5 tech at Baylor.  Great size and good power.  Could be a great rotational DL.

Like James Lynch also.. Perfect type to play 3/4 DE and 4/3 3 tech..

I like building the front-7 defense but staying open for weaponry if there's someone too good to pass on.  If this means heavy defensive draft but maybe offense sprinkled in, that's how it shakes out.

FA comes first so I would target a few particular things to create the condition for a building block draft:

-Another offensive lineman.  Likely a swing type but a starter at LG.  Won't be a top one though but hopefully we can find better than GVR.

-A starting caliber CB that is realistic.  I think we're looking more at a Juston Burris type.  Younger, but won't be super pricey.  Could be part of the team long term.

-1 WR to allow for flexibility high in the draft.  Again, we're not going after top guys so I imagine we're looking at a Rashard Higgins type

This would allow us to build the front 7 and not feel things are getting neglected.  We have holes in every facet of the game right now.   I also think we're low key looking at TEs in the draft and hard.  Harrison Bryant & Cole Kmet are the two i love.

I like your thoughts. If I was GM, I’d do a few things:

1. Get rid of dead weight. Poe, Wright, Mike Davis and Short are just gone. Don’t care about dead cap because contrary to some posts dead cap doesn’t go away if you keep a player longer. Keeping Short one more year just costs us an extra $14M in 2020 and $28.5M if we keep him both years. He’s not good enough for that money.

2. Don’t sign FAs that cost comp picks. Make sure we max out 2021 comp picks.

3. Agree with @stirs above that if someone offers you a 2021 pick (like 2021 2nd or 2020 3rd) take it. I think 2020 is a solid draft but I’m willing to get more value.

4. It’s unpopular among many but I trade Cam for the highest pick I can get, even if 2021. I want to save the $160M we could save with a rookie QB cap instead of $35M a year over the rebuild.

5. I would absolutely draft a WR and tackle this year due to the depth even early. Okung is a one year deal and I want true BOA/value. No reaches or projects. We aren’t trying to make the playoffs in 2020 or 2021, so we are stacking talent.

6. I’d take Brown or Okudah or Simmons at 7.

7. Extend CMC, Moton and Moore. Still in the fence with Samuel. Maybe extend him now to get him some cash and keep the rate low.

7. Start Grier and take Lawrence in 2021.

8. Profit.

Any chance we move Burns this draft for a pick?

Just thinking we are more set up for 43 success and the coaches have 43 in their background

No.. Just add a little weight and power and he is okay for the 4/3.. Jason Taylor nearly the same size did it for years.. Miller goes to 4/3 OLB and Haynes is the one who has a problem finding a position..

A lot of people cling to hope that Cam will actually play on a one year deal after four years of injuries and a 31 old tackle who missed 10 games, Moton and a terrible C. That’s who a QB gunning for his next deal wants to play behind? Olsen and Luke are gone. He hasn’t even passed a physical so everyone is saying nice stuff right now. I concede that Cam may not be going anywhere but it still wouldn’t surprise me if he does and even forces the issue.
