Starting to wonder if McDermott might have been the real force in Carolina all along.  Since his departure Other than one 11-5 season have we been decent.

On the defensive side of the ball I think he was. I think I was giving Rivera too much credit there. That defense was never the same after McD left while Buffalo's D got turned around in short order.

Carolina had a talent problem.  Which generally determines the fate of most proven NFL coaches.

McD had real weak talent once on D.  He got fired because of it.  Always been the same coach.  So has Ron IMO.

But I do think coaches have a window in general.  Which was also part of Ron leaving.

He inherited a talent problem in Buffalo. He fixed it.

yeah, but fixing a talent problem and one developing ....generally has more to do with the GM/ownership/front office than the HC.

This is very valid. People here crack the Buffalo Panthers jokes, but Sean deserves credit for the job he has done. As far as what he meant to the Panthers defense, all you need to see is Rivera's divisional record in particular since McDermott left.
