I noticed how the Communications Director was keenly interested in how Rhule was going to respond to questions about Cam.  Management is certainly trying to say the right things.  I would love to hear what is being said off camera.

Agreed. I was a little surprised they included that unless they just wanted to show that Rhule was saying the same things “behind the scenes.”

Also, may be nothing but the guy giving the toast in Indy says something to the effect of “now we’re all on the same page”...not sure if that means they weren’t with old staff or just meaning they’ve all had a chance to get aligned with the new staff now.

Obviously that scene was staged. All I got from it was Cam’s IG was definitely directed towards the panthers.

I was surprised as well.  They started by showing Rhule the video Cam posted and then cut to Drummond asking Rhule how he was going to answer the Can questions.  The didn't show his reaction to watching the video, only the video itself.  May not be anything at all but it did not answer an questions in my mind regarding the QB1 situation.

Possibly, it just left out Rhules reaction to the video.  It only showed how they would address questions about him.  May not mean anything but it left an uncomfortable pause from my perspective.

I think they handled the reaction well with Drummond referencing the ''misinformation that is out there'' and all the questions Rhule would field.

Now I'm not naive enough to say this locks Cam in as the QB, but this went a good way into attempting to quiet some of the outside noise.

I honestly disagree. If you want to quiet the noise, you simply come out and say, "Cam is going to be on the roster this coming season. He'll be fully participating in team activities and practices as soon as he's cleared medically."

I got the sense they were not overly pleased by the video. I also got the sense that they were just saying what they felt they needed to say to quiet the situation down. We’ll see as things go as to how they truly feel about Cam and his future with the Panthers.

But I will say, that Rhule’s refusal to name starters sounds very odd to me. To be honest, I think it’s because they’re not ready to 100% commit to Cam...even if healthy, but included  everybody else on the roster just to avoid any preemptive backlash.

To be clear, I’m not saying they don’t see Cam here, but I don’t think they’ve made any final decision on what they want to do with him yet.

I actually trust Rhule is being honest about this one. If you start naming starters, what does that tell everyone else on the roster? The guy wants pure competition. He's study film on all of these guys, but he still hasn't actually had a chance to coach and evaluate them in person yet on a practice field. He wants everyone coming to camp trying to compete for playing time.

I get that, and agree to a point. But I think Cam is different than anybody else. There is and should be an assumption that if Cam is on the roster, he’s the starter. He’s not a guy you keep around as insurance behind another guy. And quite honestly, that’s the kind of commitment I think Cam is referring to.

I don’t think Rhule was lying when he said he’s excited to work with Cam,  but I do think there’s something to the fact that he won’t 100% commit to him, even if healthy. My guess, is that they are still deciding what to do and will wait to see what opportunities present themselves.

I think it was pretty supportive of Cam. He made his statement and then made additional comments about his excitement to work him in another interview at the combine. He even says the only thing that's been said about Cam has come from other people.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
