A failure to trade Christian McCaffrey will cost us Trevor or Fields

Wide receivers can play well into their 30s.

Running backs fall off a cliff in their mid 20s.

It's just a statistical fact, with a few very rare outliers.

you can also get good production out of running backs for a fraction of the cost. extending mccaffrey on a bad roster is just fan service. which hey maybe the new owner is more concerned with pleasing fans than winning. that would still be an improvement over mister after all

If you part with Cam, Luke (not our choice), Greg, and CMC all in the same off-season you don't just have to rebuild a team from scratch, you have to rebuild a fanbase from scratch.

Doesn't matter, Trevor Lawrence will bring the fans back when he's a stud.

One year of low ticket sales isn't a big deal.

We made it through Jimmy.

This is true, whats the point of having a luxury piece like CMC on this shitshow

i saw a lot of fans dressed like empty seats

I did say "of all Panthers fans who were there," and besides, if we lose Luke, Cam, Greg and CMC in the offseason, the stands for kickoff of our first home game will look exactly like the present day.

From the other side of this perspective, if I'm CMC I'm probably demanding a trade right now. It's difficult to see this team competing for the next 2-3 seasons. Do you really want to spend your best years taking a pounding playing for a team that can't compete? That's what drove Barry Sanders into early retirement.

That’s incorrect. The peak age is 27-28. At 27, typically improving, the. At 28 they start to decline. CMC will turn 25 right before (hypothetical) Lawrence’s rookie year. 26 before 2nd year, 27 before 3rd year and 28 before 4th year. Since he is a June birthday, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he will start his decline in Lawrence’s 5th year. Certainly not broken down by his 2nd. Also, CMC can likely also transition to a 3rd down type RB which would really help a young QB. That’s why, I’d hand CMC his 2nd contract. Instead of 5th year option in 2021, make it a 5 year deal and then he’s good the first 4 years and you can even release him year 5 if he looks to be tailing off at all. He’d likely have no dead cap in year 5.

Anyway, CMC’s prime lines up with a rookie QB’s rookie contract. If Lawrence is solid, chances are you’ve already had a couple playoff runs before CMC’s 29 year old year.

    • Jones was brought in to compete with AR but Steichen was allowed to be real and say AR isnt ready and may never be. It's not a bad thing to acknowledge the reality a lot of these high QB draft picks don't make it as NFL franchise QBs. It's not a knock on Bryce, Stroud or AR. It's just the NFL.  Ive been insistent we needed more than Dalton. Other than the Raiders game, he was horrible. Plummer. Why bother. It's like we put the minimal amount of effort to a position that's actually pretty damned significant. Hell, look at Nick Foles. Backup QB wins the damn SB. Also, how many times have we seen a backup come in and never relinquish the job. Brady was Bledsoe's backup, and an injury launched a career that led to 7 SB rings.  There were guys available that were better than Dalton. We could and should have done more for the betterment of the team. If we had brought in Howell instead of Dalton, and Bryce played like he has until now, then Howell went in and started lighting it up, we would be able to say with certainty that the problems are Bryce problems because this guy can do it but Bryce can't. Dalton has already shown us he's not really capable of a lot. Maybe he surprises us, but I don't have high hopes of HQ QB play.  I don't care who the QB is. Bryce, AR, Jameis, some off world clone of Cam we found in a time capsule next to JR'S pool. Just be real and honest in all QB evaluations and may the best QB win the job. Do what's best for the Panthers, not just any one player.
    • Next week it’s “they’re playing the way they have to play on offense with Andy Dalton at QB”
    • You need a good sense of humor to call that funny. But I was lamenting that the other day. We are winning some games with that approach. Took us two and a half years to get back to where we started from.
