Cam forced into a trade

This scenario is heck of a lot more likely than yours...

Panthers have tried to trade him, which has been rumored for months, but couldn't find a trade partner.
Next step is to see if Cam and his agent can get a trade done.
Most likely they will not. And then Cam will be cut.

Which will anger people and that's why Panthers try do some damage control by "blaming" Cam for this situation. We all have seen the writing on the wall. To me, whats been telling is whenever been asked about Cam, Rhule for example, always reacts like he is being cornered. Not a great sign for a "leader".

If this was about a contract situation, does anyone really thing that Panthers wouldn't announce that to the whole freaking world... Because then no one would blame them if Cam was let go because we all would understand that they dont want to give him a new contract with all the health concerns.

My scenario is based entirely around what is known, not rumored, and the way Cam has posted in the recent months. His whole "I want a little commitment" sounds like somebody not getting an extension while in the final year of their contract and being arguably the best player in the history of the franchise.

Yours depends on rumor being true. Also, NOBODY in the league is willing to trade for Cam Newton? That is absurd to me. Rhule never came off as "cornered" to me so much as "far as I know, I'm expecting him here. I've talked to him, we get along, I like him". Rhule is staying in his lane. He's the coach. He doesn't make personnel decisions. He might not be as blunt and hard as Ron (Ron likely responds to that with "he's in rehab and I don't make personnel decisions, that's a Marty or Mr. Tepper question"), but I don't think he ever tried to squirm away from anything.

He is guaranteed $20 million though. I remember when the whole rumor of him not willing to play on a one year deal got brought up. Hell 3 weeks ago those who started that rumor backed off saying he was willing too. We’ll never know for sure unless Tepper is honest and addresses it with 100% truth which we can’t expect from him or Hurney at this point

If I recall correctly, he's only actually guaranteed about 2 million, but I'm not a salary cap guy.

As far as behind the scenes, the sequence sounds like this:

Newton wants an extension but the team won't give it to him, so it looks like they're headed for a divorce.

Newton changes his mind and decides he'll accept playing on the final year of his deal with the expectation that the team will agree to that and maybe he can work his way back to them wanting to extend him.

The team says all the right things in public, but in the background still refuses to commit to him beyond 2020, and they're only lukewarm about that year.

Meanwhile, they continue to put out trade feelers but they don't get the kind of offer they want, so they turn it over to Newton to seek his own trade.

Newton agrees, but it's still pissed about the team not being willing to commit to him.

And here we are...

Wrong on all levels.

Cam has said from the start he wants to be in Carolina he never once mentioned an extension ever. That’s all bs rumors that you tried to help start.

Team is noncommittal and Cam wants a commitment as he wants to stay in Carolina

Team puts out feelers and gets nothing or nothing they want

Team then says Cam is seeking a trade which Cam and Greg both refute meaning this is the 2nd time in months the team has tried to make it seem like a player wanted out when they didn’t.

Stop filling poo with conjecture to help fill the gaps that you were right/Cam is okay with it. Use what’s presented not what you think might have happened

If you say so, chief :eyeroll:

I don't doubt that Newton wants to stay in Carolina, but here's the thing: You can't stay in Carolina without an extension. So if Newton really wants to stay in Carolina, then guess what?

The bottom line is that the team isn't as committed to Newton as he is to them.

This is very, very simple.

The Panthers likely said "either play out your year and then we talk about extension, or we can trade you" OR Cam said "give me an extension now, or I'll request to be traded".

Speculation. That is the word you should have used.

Your post is based on speculation, just like mine.

Or the last quote is based on some sort of über fact I cannot grasp.

Panthers wouldn't be the first team that get ride of a player because he wants a new contract, so if that was the case, why has it not been reported anywhere. These things gets leaked because it helps set the narrative that the team/players wants.

And people here thinking teams will trade the house for Cam. Have you checked the FA and the draft?

This comes out now because soon there will be news that the Panthers will try get a FA or draft a new QB. I dont believe in tanking because you dont wait a year to try address a QB situation.
