Let's be honest we all knew this day would come at some point or another. In today's NFL not many players make it their whole career with the team that drafted them. Cam Newton is one of our all time greats. I wanted him to stay, and I think one year was plenty for him to show if he's still got it. I would have preferred the higher risk for the potential for higher return. But that's just me and my loyalty to a decade of Carolina football I thoroughly enjoyed watching. But I also wanted more.

So in steps new ownership, leadership and players at their respective positions. Teddy Bridgewater will be our starting QB in week one(if the world hasn't ended). The move makes sense, a fairly reasonable contract with lower guaranteed money than what it would've costed for CAM and for a lower floor , good not great, but a consistent stop gap. The risk of injury is lower he's played at an above average level in his recent showings. You won't expect him to take over a game like Cam would, but he also won't give it away like Cam did at times when trying to force the issue. This is all just an objective point of view. As I mentioned above, I vote Cam. Pay Cam.

But I can see why RHULE and Co decided this may be a decent move. History with the New Orleans Brady Connection. I think this allows them to set up their systems instead of adjusting it to fit the old regime's personnel and style. I just want to see how the fan base feels, as it's a very odd time for us in Charlotte right now. Are you ok with our leadership wanting a fresh start or should he have gave Cam one more year based on past production and the fan-base's desire to have their MVP under center one last time for all the Marbles.

The question is Bridgewater or Newton. But really we all know this question is Cam and his fans or Carolina?

And I'm the biggest Cam Supporter. That's my QB. But I will wish him well on his endeavors and pray that Tepper and Rhule can turn this thing in to what we have fell short on at this point as a franchise. And that's bringing home a championship.

*Also, I couldn't figure out how to place a poll in the post. Maybe a mod with some intelligence could help me here as they did my catch-all vent Session. Or everyone just make their pick and explain a little why that is.

Are you serious, dude? Teddy “Burnt Milquetoast” Bridgewater is nothing more than a JAG.

We have teddy on the roster now. But if Cams not what they want I don't believe they think Teddy is the answer. We need a QB if we are trading Cam. And they may very well draft one, but until then do you roll in not prepared?

It's not as simple a question as you make it seem.

Teddy is a good quarterback. I don’t get why people think he isn’t. But present-day Cam is a very good quarterback.

This is the point I'm trying to make. We all want Cam Newton here and healthy. But if we are wanting to go a different direction, signing teddy until they find their guy isn't a bad move. We need a stop-gap, or a franchise QB and if Cam isn't what they want out of a franchise QB, then we have to have someone under center. And out of everyone available, I think Teddy may very well be the best option

The question of Cam or Teddy comes down to health and offensive fit/philosophy.

It's probably more about Cam's health, & the new regime's belief in whether or not he could get the job they wanted done! I don't think anyone here can answer that.

I will say that the Bridgewater that filled in for Brees last season was preferable to the Cam we saw  the last couple of seasons. Cam probably has something left in the tank, and is hopefully far from done, but for his sake I hope he changes his style of play because he will likely never be able to do the things that he used to do. I wish him well and hope he stays healthy!

Time to move on!

Higher. I'm rooting for the guy but I was watching that game. His knee was shredded. Don't want to see that again. For that reason and more Cam is a better player than Teddy, everybody knows that. There is no OTHER Cam Newton in the league. Nature doesn't allow for it.

    • Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.
    • I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes.
    • So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive.  Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet.  That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!!  hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"
