Well FA so far..

WOW!!

Recommended Posts

3 WR, 1 OG, 1 QB, 1 TE,  1 DE, 2 Safety  right??

No DT with only 1 on the roster .

No CB with only 1 with starting experience..

No LB with only 1 with starting experience..

So?? What does this mean?? A full defensive draft??

I kinda wanted to take advantage of this strong WR draft but now they signed 3 .. Which still doesn't stop them from drafting 1 but why??

I like the OG signing... But I still wanted to grab a interior Olinemen in the draft.. But doing nothing with the defense in FA is helping that out...

I really think its stupid throwing a bunch of rookies out there into the fire so early.. But it seem like we will doing that all over the defense.   We need atleast 3 DT and 2 new CB and 2 LB to fill this roster.. I hope we're not planning to do that all from the draft...

I would be happy with a near/complete sweep on the defensive side of the ball in the draft.  I've been mocking no less than 5 picks on D nearly every time.

Me too but I kinda wanted to go defense early but grab some offensive talent in the middle..

Also didn't want to depend on everybody starting right away.. Especially in the secondary..

We'll sign some defensive free agents. Not too worried about it. No need to draft too much offensively this off-season. Teddy can manage the time he'll get in the pocket. Just need to be able to stop some people. Not panicking unless we're in August and have 8 rookies starting.

I thought we would grab a DT in free agency, but sometimes the cards don't fall.  However, Marty Hurney's record with DTs is terrible (if he is calling shots--I get the feeling that he is over college players only, but I am not sure).

Have we not added 2 DE's?

We are filling the roster with role players.  I do not think we will avoid WR in the draft--we only have 5 or so.  Usually we've had twice that many entering camp.  I expect Rhule to be great in the area of signing Undrafted free agents--he made a career out of finding talent that slips through the cracks.

Paradis is the part of this rebuild that I am not understanding.  Maybe they think his leg is better, and putting a better LG beside him will help.

We have never had the roster locked down before the draft.  Later, there will be reluctant cuts and free agents getting desperate.  We can still create cap room.

Paradis has an out after 2020 in his contract. I am expecting he will be sent packing if he doesn't improve. For all the overwhelming and accurate criticism of Marty Hurney, the overwhelming bulk of his free agency moves have been very short term. That does appear to be a lesson he really did learn.

I believe we will still add at least one interior defensive lineman. It would be unwise to attempt to fill out the depth chart at that position with rookies and UDFA's. Shades of Gettleman's CB panic draft.

I wouldn't really be worried if he did have 8 rookies starting. If you look at the roster, that is entirely likely.

I mean, it's technically possible but I doubt it happens. The way I see the roster is sort of this.

QB: Teddy
RB: CMC
WR: DJ, Samuel
TE: Thomas
OL: some combo of Okung, Little, Moton, Paradis and a FA G

DL: probably one rookie starter here, think we sign a couple FA DTs. Burns will be a 4-3 DE.
LB: maybe a rookie starter but I think either Miller moves back to LB in a 4-3 or one of the depth guys earns a spot alongside Shaq and Kunaszyk, who I am hoping emerges.
CB: thinking a rookie starter here...which scares me
S: rookie starter here as well

So I have a total of 3, maybe 4, potentially 5 total rookies that could start. Again, this is just me BSing and hoping we have a FA signing or two to set the defense up to be in better shape.

The Cb thing in 2016 is what I'm worried about.. And Hopefully Marty's smart enough to not do it at 2 position groups.. He has to bring Crockrell back for some Vet Presence right?? And Pray KK holds up...

Well they did say they wanted to draft defense very heavily. As Jeff Foxworthy would say "There's your sign".

Yeah I was thinking the same.. But not to the point where we might need 3 to 4 starters out of this draft...

    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
    • my understanding is a big time throw, could be a 5-10 yard slant to Adam Thielen given AT isn't going to separate.
