MNF: Panther vs Patriots, Nov 2013

I was with my buddy in some sick Club level seats.  I was surrounded by Pats fans and a bunch wine and cheese old a-holes (that kept yelling at me to sit down).  The game was back and fourth and ultimately came down to Brady throwing a interception, followed by throwing a temper tantrum after the game.  We went to All American Pub afterwords and I danced with a bunch of chicks and got so hot that I peeled off my black DeAngelo Williams jersey that someone immediately stole when I placed it in a chair. (Thanks for that).
Anyway, it was an epic night and it was so sweet watching all those sad Pats fans who paid big money to buy tickets in my section.

Game summary:

Carolina took an early 7-0 lead thanks to a nine-yard touchdown catch by Brandon LaFell and led 10-3 at halftime. The Patriots tied the game not five minutes into the third quarter on a touchdown by Rob Gronkowski, but Greg Olsen responded with one of his own. Carolina led 17-10 going into the final stanza, and it seemed like they had a legit chance to pull off an upset.

It didn’t take long for New England to tie the game again, though. Stevan Ridley’s one-yard run made it 17-17, then the Patriots took the lead thanks to a field goal by Stephen Gostkowski.

Starting from their own 17 yard line with less than six and a half minutes to go, the Panthers needed a game-winning drive from their franchise quarterback. Cam Newton responded, completing a 15-play drive with a 25-yard TD to Ted Ginn.

Brady rallied and got the Patriots within striking distance, but on the critical last play he threw an end-zone interception. Some folks will tell you that Gronkowski was clearly held by Luke Kuechly on the play and pass interference should have been called, nevermind the ball being completely uncatchable anyway. A flag was thrown but after a discussion the officials picked it up and declared the game over with the Panthers winners.

Naturally, Brady was livid. He got into one of the officials’ faces and screamed some obscenities on live TV.

My wife and I had just gotten married and I just moved to Charlotte (I was from Raleigh). We took my parents, who are both huge Panthers fans, to their first ever game in person. It was the Saints game in 2015 when Brees wasn’t playing and the game was closer than it should have been with the backup playing. We were sitting in the low 500’s level, with a perfect view of Josh Norman’s game-sealing interception, which was an incredible moment and I still get chills thinking about it. That play and the Cam to Olsen touchdown were some of the defining moments to a special season.

Super Bowl year, playoffs against the Seahawks. When Luke picked it off and ran it back for a TD, the stadium exploded.

Yup this is mine too. The Stew run to kick things off, and then the Luke pick 6 not long after. I could not believe how damn perfect the start to that game was, the place was going insane. And then I couldn’t believe that we almost let them come back from down 31, and the entire second half I was nervous. Great game and I wish it was a part of a successful Super Bowl run, but such is life...

Also, that was our last win against Seattle... brutal.

I love that Nov 2013 game against the Pats. If you listen closely at the interception I started to play Sweet Caroline and then they yelled flag in my headphones and I stopped it quickly. That's the game that put the Panthers back on the NFL map. But my favorite was the 2015 NFC Championship vs the Cardinals. The stadium was rocking like never before.

The Saints monsoon game to clinch the South and a 3 year run of winning the division.

Prior to then as well, our fan base had the rep of being fair weather.  That whole week on here, on local sports radio, news paper, etc.  Called out the fans to step up depited calling for a freezing cold monsoon.

This is mine as well. Have never experienced a moment In our stadium, or any sporting event, as electric as that last TD.

Been a PSL Owner for 8 years now. This is still number 1 for me. Being in those seats I could swear the fans made it rain harder. Like when you shake a tree during a storm.

    • We were very banged up going into that Rams game. Our second best player (Horn), our best safety, and both starting ILBs were out. I feel like our defense has really been impressive considering a year ago. If our offense learns how to be balanced like they were against the Rams, we can honestly beat anyone. Those losses to the Saints and 49ers may have been what we needed to figure out that when we depend too much on either running exclusively or passing exclusively that we are no good. That Rams game showed what we can do when we are in sync offensively and it was so much fun to watch. If that offense shows up this week then go ahead and cancel your plans the second weekend in January as you will have a game to watch.
    • and we won a game in the playoffs.....where our leading receiver was Fozzy Whitaker w/ just 39 rec yards.  That feels like a 2025 Panthers type winning setup.
    • Yep, the board has amnesia to the weekly swings and declarations made.  The same cast of characters has been talked about vastly different repetitively and you only have to go back as far as the game before the last one....and just keep repeating that pattern largely backwards.  I personally feel confident that this team is not bad and it is not good.  And while that is nice to get back to be out of the literal dumpster......I don't view this team as an average team w/ a puncher's chance.  All average teams are of different molds.  We are more the, if a really good team plays bad, you will lose to us variety.  We aren't bad enough where you can get away with a bad day vs us anymore.
