Why aren’t we talking about drafting an OT more?

A lot of talk about Derick Brown, but do you guys really think drafting a DT is more important than having a stud LT? There’s a few great top 10 LT prospects in this years draft.  Chance are, we’re going to draft a QB high next year.. We should think a step ahead and  start solidifying our O-line in order to protect our franchise QB. Something we never did for Cam.

Just now, Mr. Scot said:

The team probably feels comfortable going into this season with Okung and Moton.

Meanwhile, Okung is on the wrong side of 30 and on the last year of his contract. Moton is also on the last year of his contract. Our future at OT is very much in doubt and trying to use this draft to fill all the holes on this roster for this season is akin to using a bandaid on a shotgun blast wound.

Of the two LT prospects in the first round, neither are close to sure things.  If they were, more people would be talking about them.  The best two OT prospects according to most experts are RTs.  It's hard to justify a RT at #7, which is not protecting the QBs blindside.

Mainly because if we don't invest heavily on defense, we are looking at an historically bad NFL defense. We are really that bad on defense right now and the offense as it stands is at least semi competitive. We need 2 DT, 1 DE, 1 LB, 2 CB and 2 S. We have no cap room, and cant meet all of those needs in the draft. I'd like to get an OG somewhere in the 3-5 rounds, but OT is a luxury pick.

I just feel like we need more high end talent on the o-line plain and simple. We always have excuses to why we shouldn’t draft o-line high. This year is the Okung and Moton excuse. #1, they’re not that good. #2 most likely they won’t be here that much longer, meaning the “Post Gross OT carousel“ will continue..

A franchise LT is not a luxury pick. Maybe if we had one after Gross, Cam could have remained healthy

Maybe Hurney has too much pride to admit he got fleeced trading up for Greg Little last year.

He is when you are looking at an 0-16 season. Vegas has us favored in 1 game, and that is Detroit. We lost every DT we had except KK who missed most of the season . No interest in a OT this year

That's exactly why it's not a luxury pick. Our LT is 31 and on the last year of his contract and we're highly unlikely to be competitive this coming season no matter what we do in the draft.

Our biggest need is DT. We can get the best in the draft at 7. No need to over think this.

    • I would take the giants roster over Panthers. Lawrence, 3 OLB/DEs, Thomas, and nabers. Lawrence is better than dbrown and Thomas is better than icky. Panthers don't have one edge that would start over those 3 not matter how people feel about burns. Id believe....I think I would take nabers over the whole WR group....Id need to think about, but I feel it is right or 50/50..... Now after the top 10, Panthers may have claim. Im just not that big of a NFL fan like past time to make a good case. I'd just take giants on their top talent.    I will say this, if BY carries this team to the playoffs, he alone would flip this.
    • Looks like he ran out of real estate.  He had 5 total TDs. As good as we have ever seen in Carolina? Looks like he is the only QB in our history with 3 passing and 2 rushing TDs and he tied a single game record of 5 TDs in one game with Cam and Beurlein.  Throw in his 73.4% completions and zero turnovers, literally the ONLY thing you could argue against statistically is total yardage which was only 275.  You may not agree with that statement (not 100% sure I do), but it's really not THAT wild...
    • I have for too long lacked giving good posting beers, fire, etc.  Good post, its beyond prove it time and until then 30s is where they belong.
