5. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers gave Teddy Bridgewater a three-year deal but they can get out of the contract rather easily after 2021 if he disappoints as their veteran replacement for Cam Newton. Should they finish worse in 2020 under Matt Rhule and Joe Brady with Bridgewater, it would imply they must upgrade in a younger direction at the positon. Fields is hard to ignore as a dynamic dual threat at 6-3, 233 pounds. He confidently put up prolific all-around numbers during his first season with Ryan Day in Columbus.

5. Carolina Panthers: Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

Carolina went all defense—literally, all seven picks—in Matt Rhule’s first draft. In free agency, the Panthers reunited Teddy Bridgewater with offensive coordinator Joe Brady, both of whom were with the Saints in 2018. That signing should ease the challenge of implementing a new offensive scheme in such an unusual offseason. If an elite talent like Fields is available here, however, I doubt they pass on the opportunity to upgrade after giving Bridgewater a three-year deal. In his first season with the Buckeyes, Fields posted a 41-to-3 TD-to-INT ratio and added 10 rushing scores.

Fields transferred from Georgia and didn't miss a beat following Dwayne Haskins at Ohio State. He heads into 2020 as one of the best prospects in the country and would make sense for the Panthers, even with Teddy Bridgewater on the roster through 2022.

4. Carolina Panthers — QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State

Clemson's Trevor Lawrence gets all the preseason hype as far as quarterbacks go, but don't sleep on North Dakota State's Trey Lance. 

The 6'3", 224-pound redshirt freshman threw for 28 touchdowns against zero interceptions with a 66.9 completion percentage in 2019 and then rushed for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns to add to his impressive breakout season.

The Panthers are committed to Teddy Bridgewater for 2020, but the future is wide-open. If a dynamic, athletic passer like Lance enters the 2021 draft as a redshirt sophomore, there will be considerable excitement among NFL franchises.

I think we will be picking in the 5-10 range, so Fields might not make it either, depending on where Chase & Surtain II goes. 
 

I would be equally happy with Chase, Surtain II or Parsons too.

Ammunition isn’t going to matter. Assuming he’s healthy (knock on wood, don’t want to jinx him), he’s the first pick and no one will trade out of the top spot. If you want Lawrence you need to already have the pick. Unless it’s a freak occurrence like Mahomes signs his extension and gets hurt and they go 1-15, I can’t fathom a team with an older QB or a younger QB that wouldn’t keep Lawrence. Washington keep Haskins, Jax keep Minshew, us keep Teddy, Detroit, Giants, Colts? Heck, I’d move on from Mayfield and others.

Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Jamie Newman, and Brock Purdy could all be first round talents. Not to mention if someone has a Burrow like season out if no where. We should be able to get a QB if we are wanting one.
