Jets sign Joe Flacco

Mr. Scot

One year deal...

Hadn't seen the Jets mentioned as a team that was in the market for a backup quarterback but apparently they weren't happy with what they had.

Previously thought maybe the Steelers or Bengals might look at Flacco out of familiarity but he's off the market now.

Details...

Flacco is the second backup QB option to come off the market in recent days. The Seahawks also filled their backup spot by signing Geno Smith.

With them having signed Flacco and used a fourth-round pick on Morgan, I wouldn't bet on David Fales or Mike White making the team.

Can't recall ever seeing a team take five quarterbacks to camp though. Wonder if one of them gets cut before it even starts.

I don’t think that will even matter unless it’s preseason. No one is going to sign a starting QB  who hasn’t been at camp/practicing with them at all if their number 1 goes down. They’ll go backup or play for the draft. It would have to be an extreme scenario of a playoff contender who’s #1 goes down and #2 gets nicked up. If he’s looking to be a starter, he’s kind of SOL.

Jet's will probably be forced to draft another QB next draft. Yikes that is a lot of QBs with not much good going on. I bet they are hoping Falco can coach up Dumbbell.

Morgan has a lot of hype. If I were them, I'd at least give him a shot before using another draft pick.

Granted, next year's QB draft class is expected to be special.

Seems like most are expected to be that, but most end up not being.

Four of the top 12 picks were QBs. Cam and three busts.

That draft had something in common with this year's, specifically that a lot of people thought the following year's prospect would be better.

Outside of Newton, they were right.

I’m sure there is a precedent here which I’m unaware of but that seems like a pretty dicey strategy for Cam to employ.

The starter goes down in week 4 and a team brings in a guy off the street who hasn’t played in 2 years, hasn’t gone through camp, doesn’t know the offense, isn’t in football shape, etc...

...seems incredibly unlikely.

I guess that means they were wrong
