Eric Reid goes off on NFL

Recommended Posts

The NFL said they were committing $20 million more to social justice causes this year, but Reid was quick to point out that’s just a fraction of the revenue the league generates.

Where do I start? In your self reflection you chose to tell us that you donated .00275% of your 2019 revenue of roughly $16B to the causes you care so deeply for. Yet you have not denounced the police 4 their history of murder nor have you addressed your own oppressive constructs,” Reid tweeted

In his next tweet, which again, has been deleted, Reid wrote:

In your self reflection, you didn’t come 2 the conclusion 2 apologize for your numerous attempts 2 subvert the very movement that you now claim 2 be a part of, including but not limited to: breaking your own protocols in an attempt to force us from kneeling and blackballing Colin

Again, Reid is clearly fed up with the NFL trying to project one image while doing basically the exact opposite.

In your self reflection, you didn’t feel the need to reconcile your aforementioned actions. You aren’t trying to change the system. You are the system.

His rationale is lacking. The revenue is before expenses. It’s a horrible metric to use to start with. And NFL didn’t have to give anything. 20 million is huge, especially since it won’t do anything at all. Neither would 200m.

NFL income is around ~10B.  His point remains.  Bank of America announced they will donate $1B to social injustice.

As a society, our view is pretty skewed. Obviously when it comes to race, and it needs adjusting, and also when it comes to money. When did $20 million become nothing?

The NFL's track record isn't perfect, no one's is, but it never helps when someone finally puts their shoulder to the wheel if you then jump on them and ask them where the eff were they yesterday?

If you really want change, then you can't attack those who have seen the light, come to your side and are trying to help. Otherwise that change will collapse and die.

Because people want someone to direct energy towards and be angry about. If that is taken away, they’re lost.

Point being, it doesn’t matter what the NFL does. You can’t please everyone and some people will never be happy.  If we as people trying to change what’s going on do not accept and understand this,  as well as the fact that change does not happen overnight, focus will be lost and as you said things will collapse.

Reid should lead by example and post his total income and show how much of his own money he donated.

I wonder if he marched in any of the protests?  At least 5 current Panthers did and none of them have been nearly as publicly outspoken as Reid.   As invested as Reid is you would think he would have been an organizer of one and the lead person on the day of.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
