Kirk Cousins on COVID: "If I die, I die."

Your statements seem overly universal and vague for me to follow. Can you specify which countries you know people from who actually share this sentiment? Your words imply the US as this beacon of salvation against the rest of the world mired in government overreach. Surely not everyone who moved to the US from another country fears having to give an inch. North Korea maybe? My family immigrated from another country. They don't share your rhetoric. The vast majority of them are far more likely to criticize those who refuse to wear masks than criticize the mandates themselves.

Let's be honest with ourselves. The people on tv, in your facebook feeds, etc criticizing mask mandates, are they mainly people from other countries warning us the risks of a government mandate or are they predominantly the ultra conservative Trump supporting contingent?

I have a few foreign friends I have met in college that are extremely thankful for US citizenship. Probably the closest and most meaningful representation though would be my father in law who grew up during communist rule in Romania. While it’s one man’s experience, I have also had Romanian professors who have no relation to him and share the same sentiments. One common theme they mention based on their experiences is how strangely familiar events in the US have taken place that inherently led up to communism in their country. Standing in “bread lines” for hours sometimes to not receive anything, government officials keeping their family captive due to “suspicious activity,” people disappearing, etc.

I recognize the mask debate is probably a reach of an example but I personally won’t write off the notion that the government will use something like a virus to overstep their boundaries for political gain. Anyone would be  naive to think otherwise.

Kirk Cousins has never been a big thinker

this disease causes much suffering for many who get it and a good percentage of those suffer long term effects

it isn’t a matter of just him dying by being stupid , he could impact others including his own family

I don’t know if he has ever had a member of his family put on a ventilator. I have and I can assure everyone that it isn’t a place anyone wants to be.

Fair enough. Not to put words in your mouth because you didn't say it but a lesser mind might glean this from parts of your posts but you can be a proud, grateful American and still have a difference of opinion on certain parts of American society and politics. I'm a proud Southerner but am disgusted by the celebration of the confederacy in many parts down here. I am grateful for my job but acknowledge there are things that could be better. I'm sure you can be a grateful American citizen and still think we ought to be more concerned with the widespread destruction of a virus that can be mitigated by giving up some liberties than the loss of those liberties themselves. The idea that bringing up criticism means you should "go back to your country" or "go to Canada" has gained a lot of traction recently and that's not the aspects of America I'm proud of. And like I said, I know you didn't say that or even imply it necessarily but I hear being grateful/blessed/etc to be here and it just brings to mind that argument I've heard too much of that deserves to be put to rest. So this may or may not apply to you but certainly does for the multitudes of others who definitely feel that way.

I'm not a boomer so politics don't matter to me.

People die, it happens.  Maybe a lot of you are just not able to face reality?

anti-science conservative with no understanding of epidemiology + politically weaponized christian with no empathy = 188,000 covid deaths and counting

I appreciate you taking my comments for what they were. And while I am grateful for living in the US I also recognize it has its faults just like anywhere else in the world because ultimately we are all human beings that mainly prioritize ourselves. This is especially evident in those in power.

Stay safe, my guy, and I appreciate the civil discussion.

Civil discussions have no place in The Huddle. I have reported both of you and you will be banned shortly.

So you felt comfortable speaking on behalf of all immigrants because of your father-in-law and some Romanian professors?  That has to be one of the most egregious displays of ignorance and arrogance I've seen on these boards.

Yeah...the mask debate is a horrible example of that and I'm presuming you didn't have this specific conversation in the context of masks with the tiny circle of immigrants in your life.  In which case, it's incredibly irresponsible of you to invoke their broad sentiments about "liberties" and "overstepping federal boundaries" and apply that to a mask mandate.  Seat belt and motorcycle helmet mandates are probably as close of a comparison/precedent as we can invoke for this, and as far as I am aware....we haven't devolved into a Communist regime as a result.

Once again, context needs to be applied. Never said I’m speaking for anyone. I can only sympathize to a degree from both sides of the argument. I’m not an absolutist like most on here which apparently offends some of you.
