As we get ready for the season, here are some items from around the league. As always, some of these are potentially Panthers impacting though others may not be.

One that is: The team won't be facing off against Kyle Love when they play the Bucs. Tampa has released the former Panthers defensive tackle. Always felt like he was kind of underrated here, but his time in the NFL might be at an end.

Seattle has reportedly re-signed receiver Josh Gordon, this despite the fact that Gordon has yet to be officially reinstated by the NFL. Given changes to the leagues drug policy, he might be but it's not for certain.

Word also that the Dolphins are "fielding trade inquiries" for quarterback Josh Rosen. Sounds like they're prepared to go with Tua Tagovailoa as their starter from the get go. As to Rosen, who was takien tenth overall (via trade up) just two years ago and for whom the Dolphins traded a second rounder just last year, yikes!

And lastly, former Chargers and current 49ers corner Jason Verrett has suffered a hamstring injury. Verrett was a popular option among Panther fans the year he was drafted, but injuries have limited his career.

The New England Patriots have informed veteran wide receiver Mohamed Sanu of their intention to release him, a source confirmed to ESPN.

NFL Network first reported the news.

The Patriots acquired Sanu last October from the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round pick, a significant investment that resulted in Sanu playing only nine games

Still, the move doesn't come as a surprise due to a combination of finances and overall fit in the Patriots' receiving corps.

Sanu was due to earn $6.5 million this season, which is a high figure based on his projected role as a No. 4

Just a heads up @Mr. Scot Fitzpatrick is the starting QB in Miami.

With Fitzpatrick’s quick return, he’s likely to be Miami’s starter when the NFL season kicks off, ahead of first-round draft pick Tua Tagovailoa. Had Fitzpatrick remained away from the team for any real period of time, it could have opened Tagovailoa’s window of opportunity earlier than the Dolphins planned.

I'm not completely sold on that.

I've seen a lot of people speculate they'll end up going with Tua.

do you have a link or source that states this? or is this just speculation you are sharing? I've read quite a few reports that Tua hasnt looked good, and you could tell he wasn't over his hip injury. Including a direct quote from Flores.

"Fitzpatrick is the clear leader and obvious choice to start for the Dolphins. Consider in his last start, he led the team to an upset victory at New England."

Mike Freeman said on Bleacher Report a while back that every coach he'd spoken to believed it was "a foregone conclusion" that Tua would end up the Week 1 starter. The fact that he was the number five overall pick lends a lot to that notion.

Me? I wouldn't start him that soon, but I'm cautious about stuff like that.

Will the Dolphins? Don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised.

Sad to see another injury for Verrett. The man is a stud but injuries have derailed his career. He won’t be in the league after this season. Still remember him at the combine.

The Chargers and Bengals are two of the worse teams at dealing with injuries. They need to get a new training staffs. Verrett, Bosa and Derwin James all dealt with injuries in their career for the Chargers. Eifert, William Jackson, John Ross, Billy Price and Jonah Williams for the Bengals. All of them are former 1st rounders.

I'm not sure what the situation is for the Chargers, but I do know that the Bengals are extremely cheap...so I don't doubt that they probably lack some of the more sophisticated stuff other teams have.  There was one point before Marvin Lewis took over that they were rationing how much Gatorade each player could have after practice, and they'd get in trouble if they took more than they were allotted.  It was bad.
