Huh? They benched Allen and we knew before the week that Grier was starting the last two games. It wasn’t a surprise to anyone that Grier was starting. He had as much prep as Allen did the last week in 2018. Don’t forget that Allen started in 2019 after Newton was ruled out. Same scenario as Grier starting twice. I know the fluff piece on Grier this off season said he wasn’t prepared but again it wasn’t like he came in after the first series. He was named the starter for the week before the game.

I’ll just say that I don’t believe the fluff until I see it in game. He looked that bad to me. If we had preseason games, I might think differently but such is this year.

The facts are obvious to everyone--but the mentality of a starting qb vs. a backup is the point.   I think Grier was mentally immature about backing up, and did not prepare for the day he would get a crack.  That's all.  Not saying he was good or will be.  I will say that I know people who know him,  and his attitude/entitlement were concerns.

If Gross-Matos starts, we would have 4 draft picks starting on the defense---3 is unheard of--but FOUR?  that is over a third of the defense.

Don't y'all start cursing Pride and saying "He sucks!" when these veteran QBs start going after him.  They will.

If they can get time to throw. Im banking on this pass rush to be really good.

That’s what the fluff piece said. I’m sorry, but until he’s in a live situation, I’m not going to buy preseason fluff pieces over my eyes. It’s a weird offseason so it’s easier for a guy to look great to be honest. I think the way someone handles the game is what separates the good from the mediocre, especially at the QB spot. I mean if after starting for years at high school and top division 1 college doesn’t have you ready to start a game then I don’t know what will. That’s part of the reason I am not going to believe a fluff piece until I see it on the field.

    • I still think a Dalton thumb injury screwed us 2 seasons in a row.  It allowed the Bryce Young comeback after whoever finally gave a greenlight on being done w/ him 2 weeks into the season.  and I think we saw a soft benching this year and they wanted to see Andy run it with this crew.  But Andy hurting his thumb killed us from seeing whatever he has at full go in a game.  Bryce Young was never hurt those 2 games to the degree which called him to miss a game IMO.  You don't see QBs sit for such minor things....unless you just want to use it to explore and see.
    • I was quite critical of Ron Rivera's game day coaching decisions and management over his years here. Especially when he coached super conservative playing not to lose. But at the end of the day he never had to try and win with a Bryce Young. John Fox had to try and win with a Bryce Young and he completely checked out and got himself fired. The only. Only solution right now. Is to remove the anchor around our necks from the equation and move forward however we can and assess all the moving parts with the time we have left so we can move forward accordingly in the offseason. Not doing so is only going to further delay evaluating what we have in this young roster and this staff led by Canales.
    • Sometimes GMs try outsmart everyone by picking a player they think has the physical tools and can be coached up but Legette is an example what happens when that doesn't work out. Teams that are already contenders with a full roster can take those chances. The Eagles, for example, could have rolled the dice on a guy like Legette. But the Panthers needed, and still need, to draft guys who are ready to play now in the first round. Legette wasn't that guy and there were much better options available.
