Watching the Saints offense against the Bucs yesterday left me with a feeling of... familiarity.

The Saints attack is naturally far more complex and nuanced than what we have right now. It's run by somebody who's been doing it for years. Ours is run by a one of his students who's doing this on his own for the first time.

But as you might expect, there are definitely similarities.

The flow and the feel of yesterday's offense were vastly different from what we're used to seeing in Pantherland. Smoother, faster, more efficient, fewer breakdowns, and a good amount of scoring. Heck, I'm trying to remember the last time I saw so few punts.

It was...kinda like watching a Saints game.

And it was fun.

Certainly, it's way too early to say how good Joe Brady is going to be as an OC, and I know everybody is upset about the final play. Still, if you took the game as a whole, it's hard not to believe that Brady has a real shot to be more effective than either of his last two predecessors.

Throw in that outside of a second half slump, Teddy Bridgewater looked pretty good running the attack. Again, not spectacular, but the Saints, Patriots and others have shown you can win with efficiency and consistency as your bread and butter.

My expectations for this season are still low, but the one thing I can say without any doubt is that I enjoyed watching yesterday's game a lot more than I enjoyed most of the games from last year.

(on offense, anyway)

I'm not going to predict that we'll do the same thing to the Bucs that New Orleans did, but I would say I like our chances better than I might have before.

And hey, that's something.

One note from the flip side...

Todd Bowles is a really smart defensive coordinator. He's going to realize that there are notes to be taken from yesterday's game which can be applied to ours.

I'm hoping we anticipate that as well.

Anticipatory adjustments haven't been a thing in Carolina for a long time, but they really should be.

You aren't wrong that the Panthers should definitely put some points on the board against a questionable Bucs defense.

Tom Brady even made mistakes were not accustomed to seeing him make. You can take a great player and put him on the Bucs, and they're still the Bucs.

But I suspect Mike Evans and Chris Godwin put up HUGE numbers against very inexperienced cornerbacks. 

Game might be in the 30s-40s for both teams.

I wouldn't go that far....Brady just opened the season against one of the best teams in the NFL. Might be singing a different tune if he put up a performance like that while he was still on the Patriots, but he's on a new team and still getting used to his new teammates. Brady will probably look better as the season goes on. 

But I still wonder if Brady on the Bucs is just slapping lipstick on a pig.

Agree.  Their defense is the strength of that team.

 

Brees is almost a liability at this point..  I 100% believe that if the Saints had kept Teddy instead of Brees, they would be a much better team.  He has no arm strength at all.  And they still crushed TB.   They have are stacked at all positions but QB.

It’s a crazy thought but the Saints have a better defense than offense.

We can beat the Bucs.  The offense needs to finish drives, and they are going to have to do the heavy lifting and get us into the 30's again points wise, but the Bucs absolutely did not look like world beaters.

I know the Saints are good, but the Bucs offensive line was horrible, probably worse than ours.

The Bucs front seven is better than ours, but their secondary is still garbage.

We can't abandon the run altogether, but the path to victory is letting Teddy throw it.

Anyway, we all know we aren't going to the SB or playoffs this year.

Sending the Bucs & Brady to 0-2 would be a great accomplishment and a way to at least get a little recognition

      In your opinion. What do you think Moton's true value in contract, dollars and guarantees? If we had not extended him, what is your plan for RT in 27 and 28? How important are good offensive linemen for our current offense? How much value do you put on protecting Bryce at this stage of his career? How difficult in general do you think finding above average tackles in the NFL is?

      The Falcons have 2 significant offensive line injuries to start the 2025 season. Hopefully the depth we think we have at Oline either shines through or isn't needed. Many other teams are in a bad spot with their offensive lines before the season even starts. For once, we aren't in that situation.

      That roster was billed as a super smart and strong unit for a young QB….until he sucked though.   it didn’t have superstars but it had proven vets that checked well all the safe boxes and it was universally agreed the Panthers were putting him into position to succeed. BY just doesn’t fit a traditional O because he isn’t built like a traditional QB.  And he still doesn’t.   CJ Stroud would have had more success here than Bryce with that cast.   CJ just has the tools that fit the NFL more easily.  Young can find success but I have always argued it would take a Bryce centric plan (which we have never attempted IMO)
