Carolina's inactives include three players declared out with injuries: defensive tackle Kawann Short (foot), defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (concussion), and left guard Dennis Daley (ankle).

Defensive tackle Zach Kerr, defensive end Stephen Weatherly, and left guard Michael Schofield will start at those positions.

Defensive tackle Woodrow Hamilton is active after the Panthers promoted him from the practice squad yesterday afternoon. With the rules enacted by the new collective bargaining agreement, Hamilton can be elevated to the gameday roster once more while still on the practice squad.

Cornerback Rasul Douglas has been announced as a starter at cornerback, replacing rookie Troy Pride Jr..

P.J. Walker will serve as the backup quarterback for the Panthers on Sunday, with Will Grier inactive. Grier was the backup against the Raiders, but head coach Matt Rhule has said No. 2 QB could change from week-to-week.

On the other side, wide receiver Chris Godwin (concussion) is inactive. Godwin had recorded at least 100 yards receiving in the last three matchups between the Panthers and Buccaneers.

Below is the full list of inactives for both teams:

As I said in the game thread, it seems like Rhule wants to alternate between Walker and Grier based on matchups. When we face a tougher pass rush, he wants the mobile QB. When we face a weaker pass rush, he wants the better pocket QB.

Grier our-performed Walker in training camp (ask any Panthers beat writer: Person and the Observer writers said as much) but Walker is good at taking off for yardage when a play breaks down. If we needed a backup today, that’s probably the best thing they could bring to the table.

Not sure what the point of that is as well.  At some point one is going to have to step in even if its just for a few snaps.  Its inevitable.

I have full confidence that if we needed a backup last week against the Raiders, Will Grier would have performed better. Against the Bucs’ pass defense, we need a scrambler. PJ Walker is a better choice.

    • Sure.    ignore that he said this roster wasn’t good in 2023 to 2024 but keep up the effort
    • While I don't believe its a must win, (we have been better on the road this post season) it is definitely A NEED TO WIN the longer this series goes the more pronounced the Canes advantage on rest and health will be! If we hold serve at home in games 1 and 2 guaranteeing a 6 game minimum series for them if we lose the road games..... by the game 4 and 5 I expect them to be beat they have played A LOT OF HOCKEY the last three years, they have MINIMAL rest off a more physical than one might have expected series vs the leafs.... you know Tampa took their pound of flesh in round 1 from them. Combine all that with the fact that even though this year's canes squad isn't as talented as last years this IS a better squad than the one they swept last time that had McKenzie Mckeathern on line 1 Turbo with a broken hand a banged uo and eventually concussed Slavin (and even though it was a sweep 6 OTS and 4 1 goal losses is hardly dominant)  This year Bob hasn't been superman (hes probably gonna still have a great save percentage agiast us just a side effect of our style) Thatchuk is maybe 50% (3 game winners agiast us) their defense no longer has Gudas and several other downgrades.  While the Canes have a healthy and performing Svechnikov along with other big guys to counteract florida like Carrier, Jankowski, Robinson.   I by know means think it will happen but I either see this as a low scoring dog fight or a series were the canes surprise and end up dominating.
