Brady coach-speak, or Samuel to be more involved

Yep. Gettleman had an issue with spending premium picks on redundancies. KB/Funchess, CMC/Samuel. The latter in each pairing was basically a poor man's version of the former and we spent 2nd round picks on the poor man's versions. Meanwhile, we've never shown much of a commitment to building a legit NFL caliber OL.

other examples of that problem.  Often with our top picks.

TD/Shaq

KK/Butler

And some people still defend that dude, amazingly. We are literally dealing with the fallout from his poor drafting right now. Same thing we will be dealing with from Hurney for the next 4-5 years(at least).

The guy has a whopping 10 targets so far... not exactly geound breaking opportunities

That translates to 80 targets per season, which is a substantial amount for a #4 option on a team. It's also the third most on the team at the moment. He's had his opportunities, he just hasn't produced. Hence why he is currently sitting at seventh on the team in Yards/Rec. Hell, he's gotten 12 total touches if you included his 5 rushes for 31 yards and he is STILL less than 100 yards from scrimmage through two games.

Eventually there just aren't going to be any excuses.

People waiting every week for Samuel to do something feels a lot like what everyone did with Armanti Edwards.

Just sayin.

If you look at metrics like DYAR and DVOA, he's always consistently rated in the same general range, 60-100 in the NFL. I think this game is his make it or break it game. The coaches claim they are going to use him more, so let's see if he can beat out the production of our #2 running back who currently has more receptions, a higher catch percentage, less drops, and more yards in less than one quarter of play.

Luckily this is the last year on his deal. If it doesn't work out, we can walk away scot free.

Yep. Unless he carves some kind of role and accepts reasonable compensation, then he should be allowed to walk. But you know... Hurney gonna Hurney.

It's sad to look back at the talent at WR alone that was still available after the Samuel pick. So many offensive weapons were sitting there, and once again we pick a project position conversion player. When will we learn?

Samuel actually has been productive in seasons past, you know? Sure, it has been spotty, but coaching and QB play had a hand in that. And, like I've said before, Samuel actually knows how to get open.

I think this is actually valid. Too many times, we gamble for the perceived upside. The most perplexing thing though is why you'd pick him right after CMC.

When the pick was made, I assumed he'd be more of a backup to CMC that could line up at WR in certain situations. It made a little sense with CMC's size and the number of plays he was involved in, durability could be a concern. Plus Ron and Marty were hyping the scat back narrative at the time.

To see him line up at WR almost exclusively, when there were legit WRs on the board... well didn't sit well with me. You drafted a scat back type, Leatherman tool. There's a huge role for that guy.
