Panthers rookies show out

Three Carolina Panthers rookies made a huge impact on the Panthers victory yesterday.

Unsurprisingly, they were the first 3 2020 Carolina Panthers draft selections.

  • DE Yetur Gross-Matos recorded his first career sack and forced fumble on Sunday. Gross-Matos came off the edge and knocked the ball out of Cardinals QB Kyler Murray’s hand. The fumble was recovered by FS Tre Boston. The play was initially ruled an incomplete forward pass, but it was challenged by Carolina and reversed to a fumble.
  • S Jeremy Chinn led the Panthers with eight tackles against the Cardinals. He now leads the Panthers with 34 tackles this season,11 th most in the NFL through Sunday’s early window and the most by any 2020 rookie.
  • DT Derrick Brown racked up two tackles and one tackle for loss today. Brown has five tackles for loss this year, most by any Panthers player and tied for the second-most in the NFL through Sunday’s early games.

IF all three players can continue to perform at this high of a level, then the Carolina Panthers defense may end up ranked in the top half of the league.

    • This guy pre-draft was saying he could take or leave football, and he seems to have been playing with that mentality ever since lol.
    • Agreed, another safety would be nice. Bud Clark, TCU, is one I would like to see us take a flyer on later in the draft, if he stays healthy and we don't take someone earlier. I just really hope we draft a solid C this year. Tired of seeing us cycle through average to below average players in that area.
    • Bryce doesn't like throwing into the middle of the field unless the play broke down or it's set up to give him a passing lane.  So because of this issue, most of the passing offense has to be outside the numbers towards the boundary. So you see him throw a lot of dump offs, swing routes, short side out routes, comebacks or deep balls outside the numbers using the boundary as protection of an interception.    Pretty easy for a NFL defense to see this and scheme against it.  All you have to do is run a shell cover 2 deep dime, LB plays a hook underneath, take the flat away with a blitz/flat zone option for the two inside DB's, outside two DB's play hook zone underneath and carry anything deep.    Pretty much what NO ran to take away Rico while also limiting What Bryce can do as well.
