Jeremy Chinn Rookie DPOY?

Recommended Posts

I was snooping around NFL.com checking out stats.  Jeremy Chinn is leading all rookies in tackles and is doing quite well in our system.

Clearly outshining Simmons from Arizona.

I know it's a tad early but he leads all rookies in tackles (according to NFL.com)

I enjoy watching him play.  He's going to be a stud for us.  Many questioned the pick but damn he's been a pleasant surprise.

I think we can stop comparing him to Simmons who isn't even starting.  Chinn is the better player, case closed.

Chinn has a good chance if he continues to perform and get better.  He's currently on place for 148 tackles as a rookie!

Kelvin Benjamin had 1,000 yards receiving his rookie year, I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch.

I don't understand the comparison between Simmons and Chinn in terms of our picks, Derrick Brown vs Simmons was the argument, we would've got Chinn anyway had we picked Simmons.

Chinn stepping up as a LB is huge. It keeps Tahir Whitehead off the field and it gives the Panthers defense speed and versatility.

I'd say he might be the frontrunner for DROY right now along with Derrick Brown.

DPOY is probably a stretch lol

Absolutely.

I did see the ILB Queen for Minnesota has 33 tackles plus an INT.

ROOKIE DPOY.  I know he's not to the level of DPOY.

Outside of the buffet line, KB always been his own worst enemy but he’s always had the talent to be elite. Don’t really think it’s a fair comparison.

Kelvin Benjamin was a lazy bum who would have been successful if he had a better work ethic.  We should stop using such outliers as an argument.

Certainly possible but I think he'll need some more "flashy" stats to win it. Some other rookie will probably put up some flashy stats on D so I think it may make it tough for Chinn if the "only" stat that stands out is tackles. Of course he passes the eye test and has been insanely good in ways that don't show up on the stats sheet, but without sacks, picks, FF, FR, etc. and especially playing in our smaller market, I'm not sure he wins it.

    • I'm super excited about the guys we're getting back, and fortunately this year, outside of Robert Hunt, we haven't had any season-threatening injuries. Rico has earned the start, but I am excited to have both available.  The team is finally turning into the run-first team Canales said he wanted to be. As for JT Sanders, I think he has lost the most be being out. He is probably our best receiving TE, but with the emergence of Mitchell Evans & with him and Tommy Tremble both absolutely balling in run blocking, it will be hard to fix something that isn't broken. I'm hoping Turk Wharton can help with our pass rush. We really havent gotten to see him much due to injuries, but we desperately need anyone to provide some pass rush juice, which is what he was brought to do. I'm the most excited about Jalen Coker returning. Theilen may have been the most clutch last year, but I've watched a lot of film, and Coker was the most consistent WR we had when he was out there last year.  I think he can be an ideal #2 to Tmac. While Coker doesn't have the raw athleticism XL does, his route running, savvy, and overall football IQ simply make him better.  I think with the fact Coker can play both outside and in the slot will give our pass game more versatility.  We have been running a lot of 2 TE sets, and I think Tmac & Coker should be the primary WRs for 12 personnel. The other WRs (XL, Tremayne, Renfrow, & Horn) all have roles, but I dont think any of them can fully replace what Coker can do. I do think Renfrow will be inactive this week if everyone is healthy bc of how valuable Tremayne is for ST and as a run blocker. So happy that we are playing meaningful football heading into November. We are still almost certainly a year away, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction
