Get a franchise quarterback or build the offensive line?

Unless you can get a top QB prospect without sacrificing additional draft capital, OL is the way to go for a rebuilding team.

Or did we learn nothing from Cam's tenure here in regards to protecting the QB?

Tell that to the Browns who watch Joe Thomas block like a god for trash QBs his entire wasted career.

We can tell it to Carr, Cam, and all of the other QBs that got CTE behind nonexistent OLs.

I'll take making sure that the QB doesn't have any more long term health issues than they are already going to have over sticking a guy back there and expecting him to do it all.

Plus, Joe Thomas was one lineman when a team needs 5.

If you wait for the perfect opportunity to add that franchise QB chances are you're not going to be in a spot to actually land one. Gotta jump when the opportunity presents itself.

I'm not so sure that opportunity presents itself this coming draft.

I'm not either, we'll just have to wait and see. We're almost certainly not going to be in position to draft Lawrence or Fields and evaluations might be all over the place in guys after that. Lance is the consensus #3 guy among draftniks and they all have him flirting with the top 5 but I'm not completely sold in that narrative. Then you have guys like Wilson at BYU, Monds at Texas A&M, Trask at Florida, etc.

Agree

Whether you like Teddy big picture or not, one thing you have to like is he allows us an opportunity to develop a guy like the Chiefs did Mahomes and what that Packers hope to achieve with Love.

With how they're looking this season, pending an Adams injury, I don't think the Packers fans are mad they're devolping Love's potential behind Rodgers.

Florida quarterbacks make me nervous as hell.

Hell, all QBs make me nervous as hell. Especially as a fan. The interview process and white board work are so vital to the evaluation process and we have no visibility into that. We're just left to formulate our opinions based on gameplay. It's why I didn't like Herbert. A lot of what I saw him do at Oregon didn't translate to the NFL. Now watching him in the NFL, it seems pretty obvious to me that it was just a product of that Oregon offense but without interviewing these guys and throwing concepts at them there's no way if knowing that.

Exactly. Teddy here means you don't have to throw a rookie into the fire if he isn't ready. The Chargers had the same situation with Tyrod Taylor and Herbert and the Dr. Nick ensured Herbert's shot came sooner rather than later.

Line!  how many QB's have been ruined by shitty O-lines?  Cam newton is basically damaged goods and andrew luck literally retired to get away from it.  I remember David carr was alright but took a billion hits in his first few years and his career was trashed for it.  Deshaun watson is currently on that same trajectory because of his shitty o-line play.  It all starts up front, fix the O-line first then everything else falls into place.
