Is it known whether we're officially eliminated from playoff contention yet?

Hadn't heard anything but it feels like we should be.

I know we can't possibly win the division.

It’s not marked as official but yes we are basically done. We can at best finish 7-9 and the Cardinals have 7 wins and Chicago/Minnesota play each other so one will have 7 wins and both of them beat us.

There might be some weird 3 way 7 win tie that somehow we win the tiebreaker but I’ll call it official. It would be a miracle that will not happen. Time to plan for next year and if we give CMC 20 carries a game we are just plain dumb.

One tracker I saw showed four teams eliminated from the AFC race, but everybody still in it on the NFC side.

I know the NFC East is doing their best to give everyone hope.

I honestly think we could be out of it. A lot of times those standings don’t take into account teams playing each other. Yes, technically a tie could happen but if with three games left we still need a tie to even make it that’s million to 1 type odds.

I found the NYT playoff tracker.

It lists us as less than 1%.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
