So rumors are flying that the Jags may go hard after Dabo and can Marrone. If that is the case and they get Dabo, forget any trades for Lawrence. Sounds like this will be an interesting offseason.

I get the trevor angle but why in the hell would Dabo want to blow his NFL load in fugging Jacksonville?  Does the owner even give a damn about football because from what I have seen they dont know what in the hell is going on.

I agree. Also Dabo is made for college, and he has a current dynasty built with no real competition in his conference, a clear path to championship potential every year. I don't see him giving that up for a Jacksonville franchise that has considered moving to London.

honestly we're probably gonna end up trying to like matthew stafford or something

I have brought this up before. If we choose not to draft a QB in this draft, I am all for Stafford. He has about 4-5 good years left, which matches the timeline of the McCaffrey contract. His arm talent with our receivers would bring the big play back to Carolina. In this scenario, I would assume we were lucky enough to draft Sewell, or trade back and get Darrisaw while adding another 2nd

To be clear though, I prefer to draft a QB. I just cannot watch Teddy another year, and Stafford would be the best fall back option.

Dabo ain't leaving Tiger Town for Jacksonville, not a chance.  He's got it made in the shade with pink lemonade down there.  Only place he'd go is Alabama.

I don't think Dabo is leaving Clemson anytime soon.  He has built a powerhouse and his staff are extremely loyal to him and the program....and they are paid well for that loyalty.

Seriously, Lawrence does have the power to pick his destination.  I know he is perceived as very down to earth and humble, but Eli was too.....

I think that this may be the only scenario that makes Lawrence a Panther.  The cost is too great for a "conventional" trade up and the "2nd" tier QBs aren't crap.

If we could get him for 2 firsts and 2 2nds, I’d do it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I wasn’t the GM or we’d be sitting pretty with 3 or 4 comp picks and $90M more in cap space so that come 2022/2023 we could make some big splashes where we still had weaknesses and still have enough draft picks to have taken 6 or 7 OL over two drafts to have a good shot at Moton having a good OL next to him. We’d also have enough money that he’d have Moore, CMC, Anderson and maybe Samuel for years. With Grier starting we’d probably have the top pick too. Marty was the GM so we aren’t in a great spot.

It would really suck to know we actually were interested in going for Lawrence because it would confirm how stupid we were this off-season. Rhule still could have gotten the team in fighting shape but we just would have been worse enough to be right there with Jax and NYJ and have an easier SOS to boot.

Me and you both had similar ideas about 2020, I wanted to hardcore punt. About the only FA Id sign was Kerr. Just get the most cap space and draft picks possible for 2021, I felt this way before convid and since made it happened this is a even better plan. Like Okung for Turner, should have just cut him or only take back a pick(both of us wanted this). Its all in my history, I didnt understand trying to take a 2 win team and uses all sort of resources to only get 4 wins. That may be the reasons for finally getting rid of Marty, he was giving all he had to win, and we at no point had the team/horses. I know at times, teams/players can surprise and be good/great, loads better due the league getting worse too. Just was a awful plan then and even more so now. Roll over that cap space to 2021, instead of wasting it on a 3 win roster.

Of course Id pass on Anderson, Burris, Miller, and would have cut Mike Davis asap. Again punt this season and go all out in 2021. I didnt dwell on it cause they where going on another path and its pointless. Even with a great 2021 season, this team is still a long way form being stable. 2022 is where the Rhule era will start if theres one, by then he'll have 30 of his players on the roster. Learnt so much about 2020s of the NFL and the differences between college. He'll either get fire during 2022 or greatness will start.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
