Considering our secondary was horrible, why not?   We could use an upgrade in players and coach.

To answer your question, we really only had him for one season, and it's one during which we suffered some injuries in the secondary.

We were 5-11... but for a team that was gutted and rebuilt in one Covid filled off-season, we did pretty well. How many one score games were we in? Games we would've won with a halfway decent QB? 

The team is better than the record shows which is a major accomplishment considering the circumstances.

In this particular case, it's probably more about familiarity than our record.

The fact the Panthers won 5 games, the same they won last year except this time during a pandemic and after gutting the team and hiring college coaches is admirable. I think if anything this shows Panthers did their job getting the best people in place they could, unfortunately it also means many will leave for promotion.

It’s almost as if the professionals can evaluate coaching better than the huddle and look at more than 5-11.

Because our roster and youth and QB going into the season suggested we should've had 1 or 0 wins...

Our 3rd down defense was atrocious, most of that given up through the air.  Granted our talent in the secondary was marginal, but woof what putrid numbers.

I don't honestly think our record matters

To me, this is probably just a case of a head coach calling a former assistant about an opportunity on his staff.

Simmons spent about 10 years working with McCarthy.
