Jonathan Jones: Caserio was first choice, and Tepper was prepared to pay him a lot of money

On local radio here in Raleigh, Jones just said Tepper was prepared to hire Caserio and "pay him a lot of money," before the Texans and Easterby did the same thing.  Also, inferred that Dodds withdrawing from consideration for the GM position has to do with Rhule being "the guy," here, so if a guy is looking to be an autonomous GM, Carolina isn't going to be a fit.

I don’t like seeing or hearing that at all. If Rhule wants to be the Gm, just come out and take both the jobs. If he wants nothing to do other than coaching the team then let’s get a Gm that has full control of managing the team.

There’s an ocean of space between those two options. We’re going to be somewhere in the middle—there will be a GM but Rhule will have the loudest voice in the organization. That’s worked plenty of times, it’s not necessarily a problem.

I believe it.

Tepper and Rhule made the decision to partner with each other during their first meeting.

It’s been a week and a bit of interviews daily. You had to figure they had a guy picked.

Hopefully Tepper didn’t blow a gasket and say something out of anger to Caserio after finding out the news. We’re going to need Caserio to send us Watson

Sounds like Chip Kelly. I’m pretty sure that was the reason the 49ers got rid of Harbaugh. I don’t like it one bit. Having two guys with high egos butting heads. It’ll happen sooner than later. A Gm should not have to answer to the head coach. It’s the other way around. That’s why I wanted Tepper to fire Hurney after 2019 so we could have a Gm to pick his own coach. Tepper doesn’t have a clue what he is doing.

It also sounds like Kyle Shanahan and Pete Carroll. There’s more than one way to divide the work and authority between a coach and a GM.
