This is kind of sobering...

Just realized that it stops at the 2014 draft. Outside of Metcalf and the feel good story of Shaquiem Griffin...it still aint much there that I can recall.

With all if that said, I’ll reserve judgement of the hire and an hoping for the best.

Judging him based off draft picks are a joke. He didn’t have a call in WHO WAS SELECTED. That would go the the owner/gm/coach.

Another poster (cannot remember who is was) pointed out in a separate thread and said “imagine the bills not selecting Brandon Beane because of Dave Gettleman/Hurneys draft picks.”

That is all that needs to be said about comparing Seattle’s draft picks to our hire of him.

Dave was our head scout and that was known. We were also drafting better than the Seahawks have been over the last three years. Their 2012 was just amazing.

The guy we hired played a pivotal role in assembling draft boards that have been underwhelming for 5 years. The sky isn't  falling but its a legitimate concern going forward. Hopefully he proves his part was positive but it is there.

Judging him without placing all the responsibility but an unknown some responsibility is fair because it was his job and the results he contributed to were not good. It's a concern not a conviction. Quit being a self-righteous cheerleader and allow people to talk it out. Either way, we will know relatively soon.

That’s my opinion. You call it being a self righteous cheerleader, and I call it using common sense. The guy outlasted three GM’s in Seattle and is obviously well qualified for the role. Pardon me for taking the opinions of league insiders and people who do this for a living over some random douche on the internet.

I’ll admit that I don’t know a lot about the guy, but the problem here is that that many act like they do or that they have these huge concerns about him and how the team is dumb for making the decision when they know zero about ANY of these guys. They are not players, we can’t just throw on game tape and see how they performed. So many factors go on behind the scenes in the roles that these candidates have, that no one knows what they do or what they had the power to make decisions on other than people inside the building that they work for or league insiders. People literally base opinions on who they want based off of some random espn “fluff piece” article that they find and who’s picture that they like the most. Let me ask you...What did Brandon Beane do or what can you point out that he did for us behind the scenes during his time here, that you would be over the moon about if you were a Bills fan when he was hired??

I’m not claiming our guy is going to be the worlds greatest GM...only time will tell how he performs, but I laugh at anyone who is criticizing him (literally the only negative thing people can come up with is Seattle’s draft, and he didn’t even have the power to make the decision on who was selected OR the types of players the coach wanted). Again, I trust league insiders over your opinion of how Seattle’s drafts recently make him sub par candidate.

A couple of things:

they usually draft in the high 20s because Seattle is good year in and year out. Harder to hit on the pick.

we can’t put every single pick on fitterer since he wasn’t the GM/coach power structure there

that said I’m a bit underwhelmed with the hire. I’m glad he comes from a good organization and it seems we are mimicking their setup with coach and GM that work together and share power in picks and team building. We’ll see if that works but it’s a risk since Rhule is green. Although if rumors are true he had a ton of say in last draft, we hit it out of the park. So hopefully that continues.

this draft is really essential to us laying a solid foundation for the next 5 years.

Here's the ultimate bottom line. This is a crapshoot like the draft, pick someone who has been part of building a winning organization and honestly pray you get lucky.

I would have rather had someone more analytically driven but maybe we can have a position for that alone

Time will tell how he works out but one thing encouraging is that the Seahawks have been one of the most analytically driven franchises in the league, so he should have plenty of experience with the structure we are trying to build.

this keeps being parroted as if it's the be all end all way to show that the panthers are totally amazing and stuff

the reality is is that it is one individual case against the backdrop of the entire league, and that the array out horrible drafts Seattle has made have come with fitterers influence at its zenith

You don't generally go cherry picking from poor performances for good reason

Yeah anyone who wants to fault Fitterer for Seattle drafts but turn around and say Beane was a sure thing we should have kept needs to look in the mirror.

Every choice they made wasn’t his final decision and we’ll never know what players he would have picked compared to who they actually drafted.

Plus, in the end I trust Rhule to pick the players for now. Until he dries up, we had a really good draft last year and he knows plenty of other players in this draft class.

If anything, Seattle has shown that one mega draft plus some solid picks the rest of the time can lead to pretty sustained success. It comes down to getting a legit QB and having good coaching.
