Peter King on Panthers and Deshaun Watson

It depends on the trade. The big question is can we still build up the team around Watson with no first rounders for the next 2 years. I think we could. I consider 1 of those firsts would be like we drafted Watson this year. When you start throwing in our young defensive players like Burns, Chinn and Brown I could only do one. And I’d want it to be Chinn. If it’s two of them, nope. If they start saying 3 1sts and 2 2nds but no other young defensive players I’d be listening. It’s a balance. Can’t mortgage too much where there is zero hope of building the team up over the next several season. I’m ok with giving up 3 1sts.

there are tons of different scenarios here.

He didn't establish him being "untradeable" he just alluded to what many people already knew, which was trading him entails a large chunk of dead cap this offseason. In the deal King proposed(which is actually fairly ridiculous, IMO) we would actually end up with more cap space free, not less.

Oh, I'd definitely say Voth established "untradable".

Either way though, agree about King's suggested deal. That'd be jaw dropping.

Honestly, giving up 1st rounders concerns me a lot less than giving up guys like Burns, Brown, and/or Chinn who have shown to be very promising young players still on cheap rookie contracts.

He's tradeable in any Watson scenario. Hell, someone offer up two first round draft picks, I'd trade him for that.

In most other scenarios the greater harm is to us. I also can't fathom King's choice of players. It seems so heavily weighted in our favor that it doesn't seem logical.

Exactly. The biggest thing to me is keeping second rounders and 2 of the 3 young defensive starters. Burns is the most important, then Brown then Chinn. I know Chinn is a baller but it’s just positional value. We need to keep those 2nd rounders though if we give away a young defensive player.

Pushing a deal that involves all offensive players when it's been reported that the Texans are looking for defense doesn't make much sense either.

The biggest knock on any trade package we can offer is that it doesn't include an answer at QB. They shouldn't want Teddy and one reason why we're likely so desperate to trade for Watson is that #8 looks to likely be on the outside looking in on the top QB prospects in this year's draft. The Jets and Dolphins not only have young QBs with potential upside to offer, they also have a pick that is guaranteed to be able to secure one of the top QB prospects in this year's draft if that's the direction the Texans want to go.

Yep.

We may be in the poker game but we're working with a pair of threes.

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
