Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina

Well Teddy is still better than Cam at this point.

Arguably no he’s not. But assuming Bridgewater is better, the Panthers are still desperate to get rid of him even though he’s gonna cost us a poo load in dead money next season.

If Cam sucked last season, he would be gone and the books would be clean.

If it scores us a third round pick, does it matter?

I guess in three or four years we’ll know? Convoluted way to look at it. Bridgewater was an atrocious signing in hindsight. No getting around it. I mean, it got Hurney fired again so maybe it was actually a great move. Same logic with the comp pick.

We should know immediately.... essentially we bought a 3rd rounder.

sure, point remains signing Teddy to that contract was an awful decision. Just because it nets a backend third round comp pick doesn’t change that fact.

glad we have guys in leadership who are willing to move fast to make changes like this.

i think we're staying in the watson game until he agrees to rejoin houston (unlikely), is traded elsewhere (very possible), or we strike gold on our own.

we will likely go into the draft not knowing his status and will draft a QB at 8 if there is one we like. if we can trade for watson after the draft we'll probably send that rookie QB as part of the package.

Cutting Cam and Starting Allen would have given you the same production at a fraction of the cost.

Hurney magic

Key Free Agents:

  • Okung  (hurt most of season)
  • Whitehead (sucked whole season, benched for a special teamer)
  • Weatherly (hurt and sucked most of season)
  • Bridgewater (4 wins)

Second contract:

  • CMC  (hurt twice--I had more yards getting from my car to my house than CMC)

Dead money:

  • 25% of the cap  (The reason Marty was fired)

You're awesome, as always, Verge.  Thanks for sharing the info.

So now my question is, was it Hurney's decision to move on from Cam and to Teddy, solely?  And if so, did Rhule and Brady just tow the company line publicly?  Because of the public love shown for Teddy, I assumed the move was pushed for by Brady/Rhule.

    • Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+). Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.  Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3). I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.
    • Ive said it 1000x times on here.  Our 2025 season will be dictated by the first 4 games.  poo the bed there and lose all confidence and momentum, we win 5 games maybe.  Go 2-2, 3-1 we got a look at 7/8 wins
    • I basically made almost the exact predictions on a phone call with a buddy about 3 weeks ago. I really do expect Evero gone before the seasons end, Young to just not able to get over the hump enough and DC to head into next season on a VERY hot seat.
