Top 5 Per Position - Choose two

Recommended Posts

Twelve position groups a total of 60 players.

Assuming all 60 of the top players went in the first two rounds.   We have a shot at 2 of them.

Who do you choose.

If we get one of the QBs I want Lance.  If not, Surtain.

2nd Round Creed Humphrey

If we can get a QB at 8, that would be great(not Jones). If not, OT and OG in the first two rounds. Start to build a dominant OL.

The word is that this is a deep draft for OT.   I would like to have a solid center and Humphrey is a solid choice.

But if we took a OT and Center I would be happy too.

The cost to trade up for Fields would be enormous and he has his question marks.

That really depends on if other teams may be looking to move up for him, what Atlanta/Detroit think of him, etc. I don't think it'd necessarily be enormous. Hell, I don't even think it's a guarantee he goes before 8 like I used to. His stock has clearly been dropping a bit compared to the other QBs. If you told me a month or two ago that 3 QBs would go before Fields, I'd think you were a moron. Now the way things have trended, I'd be surprised if he's taken in the top 3. Jets seem locked in on Wilson and most are convinced that the Niners want Jones or Lance (could be a smokescreen but seems unlikely at this point).

You can't compare the Niners/Dolphins trade to any potential trade we'd make to move up. Moving up from 8 to 5, 6, or 7 is a lot different than moving up to 3 from 12...

Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones have question marks too.

I have no clue who will go when. To be honest, I still think the Jets are up in the air. After Wilson’s pro day I think everyone pencilled him in at 2, but I don’t know if that was insiders or just assuming.

If It goes Lawrence, Wilson and Jones (still not sure about SF) and Atlanta doesn’t go QB, we should have a shot to move up for Fields. According to most trade charts, our 2nd would get us to 4 and our 3rd would get us to 6. Heck, the difference in value from 3 to 4 is the same as 4 to 8. We wouldn’t think about trading up until we knew the Falcons weren’t going QB. At that point I think a trade to 5 or 6 will be interesting because there are only 3 non-QBs that I think are head and shoulders in the top level, Sewell, Chase and Pitts. Maybe Parsons if you want D.

If SF does in fact take Jones, then we could probably easily get up to 5, 6 or 7 without giving up a lot. If SF doesn’t take Jones, we might have a chance at Lance or do something dumb like take Jones. Hopefully, his pro day got us completely off that ledge.

Atlanta really worries me.  I could easily see them trading back for a QB hungry team.   And they aren't letting us into that spot.   Acquire picks, screw the divisional rival that is painfully desperate for a QB, etc.

I’m honestly not as worried about trading back from 4-7. It may happen but I really do think that there’s a big drop off. 8 may end up being a good place depending on if that 4 QBs in 4 picks without Jones happens. Jones at 8 is my nightmare.

If somehow Jones goes at 3, you’ve got Chase, Sewell, Pitts and Parsons that I think are at another level from the Smith, Slater, Waddle and Surtain crew. If somehow one of the latter crew goes before 8 so much the better, but I think that because those 4 non-QBs do appear to be in another level I think that 4-7 won’t trade back.

We truly need Jones or one of the second tier to go in 3-7. If that happens we have Fields, Lance, Sewell, Pitts or Chase at 8.

The nightmare is that those 5, Wilson and Lawrence go 1-7. I think that’s highly unlikely and that we could trade up just a couple spots and still get Lance. SF/ATL sets the draft for us. With all the solid OL, including tackles in the early 2nd, it would be awesome to land a QB we love at 8.

My nightmare is chasing the QBs.

The three that have separated themselves from the pack are going 1-2-3.

I'd be happy with sitting at #8 and getting a franchise LT / matchup nightmare TE or trading down to acquire second day picks.
