Sounds like Teddy will be Traded

Recommended Posts

Best hope is someone like SF (assuming Jimmy is trades) or NYG that has a cheap QB and needs a quality backup might toss a 2022 5th or 6th at Carolina to make this happen. Trading down from #8 is a better route to recoup picks, particularly if one of the QBs is still on the board.

I see a pattern of the Panthers just quickly cycling through experienced QB who didn't pan out until we hit on someone. Darnold will have a short leash imo, and if he doesn't produce a winning season in 2021 then he needs to be mentally prepared to be the scapegoat. We'll put the losses on him and send him wandering off into free agency. Rhule is an odd dude.

Trade or cut, we’ll eat 15 mil of his contract but it opens up 8 mil post June 1st. So with a vet in Darnold on a rookie deal, we can still draft Lance or Fields, and spend 5-6 mil towards a vet DB or just make it savings.

The Panthers aren’t drafting Fields or Lance, give me a break. That would be extremely moronic based on what the Panthers just gave up.

We gave up a 6th (meaningless, we have three) and 2 futures. It really wasn’t much. If you’re looking at the money, we’re going to be in a perfectly reasonable spot to do so if one falls. I don’t think we’re trading up anymore though and that’s likely why we went ahead and did this.

Why are we now giving up on drafting a future franchise qb for Darnold? Like you just said,  if darnold doesn't light it up then he is a FA next year and we have absolutely nothing at QB. I still think we should be looking at drafting one if somebody falls not name mac jones.

I think we might draft Trey Lance.

I think there is weird outrage.  People wanted us to draft a QB and ditch Teddy.

if we did, that means we still bring in another QB.  Darnold doesn’t mean we can’t draft a QB if he falls to 8.  But it means we have hope beyond just being stuck with repeating Teddy again if we can’t land a QB we want.  Darnold might not be any better than Teddy.  But he has potential to be.

I already think darnold is better than teddy but not by much. Sam is going into year 5 and has to be paid after this year but i think its close to a pipe dream he will be a significantly better qb to what we need going forward. I would rather just draft a young guy then take to time to see what darnold can do. I mean its not many options for a legit vet to come in. Unless they are just waiting to see if watson gets out the mess he is in later. Other than that you gotta draft somebody.

    • After listening to Morgan's presser twice, I came away with some key beliefs. First of all, I don't think he's a bullshitter. What you see is what you get. When he says something, he means it.  The Teppers really have evolved as owners. Morgan has mentioned how they're easy to work with--a pleasure to work with a few times now. There seems to be a good relationship between all of them (and include Dave Canales on that). We'll see if it lasts. Yes, no one wanted to come to Carolina with the previous management, but that seems to have changed. The team signed arguably the top Edge, LB and OT on the market, two of them on pretty good deals and one on what I'll say is "not a bad one." And, credit Sunshine Dave "Flowers and Cotton Candy" Canales for helping to change the culture. Morgan mentioned getting guys--and I'm paraphrasing--that are not only great football players but great people. Don't look for us to be acquiring any James Pearce types anytime soon, just saying. We'll see if that holds true in the future. Dan Morgan really has set up the Panthers to take the BPA/BAP. He mentioned it at least a couple of times, and he doesn't seem pressured to pinpoint a particular position. He just wants quality players that will help the team. This is how it's going to be (to your joy or dismay, probably for as long as he's here), and personally I love it. Many of us know how Morgan was when he played: aggressive! That's what he's going to be when making acquisitions. He explicitly said it, and emphasized it. All avenues are open (think FA, waivers...the draft)! Personally, as long as it's controlled aggression and not reckless aggression, I love it.  On KP: "Mobility is big in this league."  He basically says if another QB is the BPA while drafting--we're going by our board, people--we're going to add them.        ...
    • Canes are so fascinating. Despite inconsistent defense and poor goalie play they keep winning.
    • I like Morgan's approach but I'll wait for a few winning seasons before giving too much praise.
