DJ Moore: Only current WR with consecutive 1100+ yard seasons?

The specific stat is...

DJ Moore is in fact the ONLY WR to post 1175 or more yards in both 2019 and 2020.

I will admit I am too lazy to look up the exact number and just say 1100+.  But that stat and fact is true and was discussed at the end last season.

Only other player to pull it off was Kelce.   A TE.

So if you make it 1175 AND exclude TE's, then it is technically true. So, what? What does that tell us?

His 2 year average puts him 5th among WRs. But 1 of only 2 in the top 10 to play all 32 games. The other? Allen Robinson. That's his comparison.

His per game average over the past 2 seasons puts him somewhere in the teens. Right around... Allen Robinson.

No, and that's the point. DJ is a very good reciever, but let's stop making him out to be something he is not.

For real bro. When he's got the ghost of Cam Newton and Teddy Bridgewater (who may in fact be the best of all time) throwing him balls what's the excuse?

So on top of being a middle of the road starting reciever, he adds 1.5 rushing yards per game too?

I don’t view DJ Moore as a middle of the road WR.

I view him as one of the more talented young WRs in the NFL who hasn’t had decent QB play at any point in his career....and is off to the best start in franchise history at the position.

Michael Thomas had the ghost of Drew Brees and Teddy Bridgewater over the same span. Amari Cooper had Andy Dalton and some dude who nobody knows. Diggs & Hopkins changed QBs too, although I'll grant their QBs were better.

All of this can be true at the same time. I agree on the talent. The issue it's here has shown no ability/desire to reach his ceiling at this point in his career. He is largely the same player we drafted.

As for middle of the road, if you consider the top 32 WRs "starters" he finished in the 2nd quartile and closer to 32 than to 1 in yardage both years.

In some ways there has been a bit of overrating DJ through fan lenses. But in that same regard there are people who try to diminish him for whatever reason despite clearly being a much needed breath of fresh air. To that I say we could end up back in the days of multiple third or fourth options in starting roles like Corey Brown or Devin Funchess or Kaelin Clay if we end up in cap hell again. 2017 anyone? Be grateful we at least have a talented wideout putting up respectable numbers for a change. We also have a solid 2nd option with Robby. How long has it been since we could say that?

I'd just like to take this opportunity to point out that out of all the males in the whole world, only one dated Sandy Sommer in high school, Shannon McCorkle in college, and Jenny Blackwelder in her bikini wearing 20's prime.

Out of 3 billion plus males, I'm the only one who fits into that category.

Clearly I'm an elite level boyfriend.

It's not even close.

I really don't get the hate on DJ?  He's getting better and better each year.  He's always a threat when the ball is in his hands, but last year when his number was called, he answered.  Now it doesn't help when Teddy wasn't throwing the ball over five yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

Is he a top 10 WR?  Maybe?  Is he worth a 2nd contract?  Yes.  He's a very talented WR.  I kind of am over the whole "top 10" listicles non sense.

I think if we get a QB who is willing to give play makers a chance, we'll start to see more from him next season.

DJ Moore isn’t the problem.   He isn’t a problem.

the lack of QB play to take advantage of him is the problem.

our HOF WR had a QB who couldn’t throw downfield in 2010 while in his prime.  He had 500 yards.  No amount of desire was going to let him excel.

Then why did Samuel and McCaffery improve every year as pass catchers with the same QBs as Moore? And Robby demonstrably improved with Teddy, Sammy and PJ Washington.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
