I will say that Little is a far worse pick than Butler. The draft capital we paid for Little was a little more than the pick we used on Butler. Also, the 2019 draft was chock full of OL and a much better draft than 2016. Butler didn’t live up to his pick but the dude actually played and contributed. His last season with us was actually a good one. 6 sacks for a Non starting DT is really good.

That’s a fair point but on the flip side I think we need to give the same time to little also then and let him play out his rookie contract. Not all players come in ready to play.

likely? Probably not but you never know if little can find a way to be serviceable

The 2016 draft was horrible. If not for Bradberry (who we didn't even resign so that makes it even worse) it would have probably been the worst draft in team history .

I was immediately incensed when we picked Vernon Butler and then proceeded to draft 3 CBs in a row .

To his credit Gettleman had a much MUCH better final Panthers draft in 2017. Mccaffrey Moton Samuel all hits . Although Samuel didn't end up being a game breaking WR he had some decent contributions especially near the end of his tenure here.

...this is when i knew gettlebag didn't know his azz from a hole in the ground.

I'm just grateful Gettleman is gone. When you're missing at the top of the draft it's just brutal, and he was bad in later rounds as well. And his free agent signings should have landed him in jail. In 2016 Gettleman's draft was horrific:

Round 1: Pick No. 30 – DT Vernon Butler - OMGGGGGGGGG

Round 3: Pick No. 77 – CB Daryl Worley - Couldn't guard anyone and drew PI penalties left and right.

Round 5: Pick No. 141 – CB Zack Sanchez - Cut quickly and looked high school quality.

Round 7: Pick No. 252 – TE Beau Sandland - Who????

But yes they were both bad.

A single pick comparison doesn't really establish much as far as drafting talent. Hurney whiffed far more in the 2nd and 3rd where it really matters than Gettleman. It will be interesting now to see how not having JR influence will affect our new GM.

Yes I said they were both bad. I just made that comparison because it popped into my head. No point behind it.

Little and Grier were both terrible. Gaulden was terrible. And then going back Armanti and Pickles were both inexcusable. It wasn’t just a whiff when Hurn-dog missed it was a catastrophe.  I really never felt that way about DG’s picks. I guess at least with his misses, I could understand the logic. The one I didn’t care for was Funchess but I still understood their thinking.

Really? I don’t think I could disagree more. The obvious issue was the Kalil signing but I really think JR had a hand in that.

Norwell, Ginn, Mitchell, Oher, Coleman and Tillman were all excellent signings.

There were quite a few decent ones like Love, Allen, Harper, cotchery, and Florence and Finnegan as well.

I guess Boykin and Shepard kind of sucked but I don’t think their contracts really hurt us.

DG’s strength, mAybe the only strength, was pro scouting. He has a career built on it.

    • So much revisionist history around the pre-draft Bryce hype. The media was practically united in saying that if he were a couple inches taller he'd be the perfect prospect and it was just a question of whether he'd hold up in the NFL being that small. The Panthers did not create the mythos around him they were just the team that bought in. The team was largely praised for the move after and for surrounding him with what was considered an all-star coaching staff at the time.  Yeah part of the fanbase wanted Stroud but let's be real, we're coming from an oversized franchise QB who injured himself out the league. There was some analysis here on the limitations of Bryce's game but people were mostly just concerned he was going to turn into dust when he got sacked in the NFL.
    • Maybe Rod changing his philosophy a little so that stars dont turn into JAGs.
    • I feel like the last 2 years were the best chances to win the Cup under Rod. Especially 2 years ago. Im afraid this year is the start of the decline. You cant last forever with his philosophy which doesnt change and most stars you get by the trade deadline end up being just another guy.  It sucks because he is a master motivator. All he needs to do is make small tweaks like change his coaching staff and actually address the issues this team has had year after year in the playoffs. Not just personnel wise, but strategic wise.
