I see no possible way that this forum doesn't implode over our pick.  So many people want different players and when we trade down (which I think we will) the server will melt down.

Yeah probably. I think I have found my inner peace though. I started this whole process thinking about trading for Darnold since we were at 8 and Jets would take a QB. Then the Watson thing began and I totally dropped that thought and was all in for Watson. Next, I started dreaming scenarios where Lance was our guy and how he could be the next Maholmes. After that, we actually do trade for Darnold and I remembered that I initially liked that idea so I started dreaming about LTs.

Basically, this has been the most fun I've ever had during an off season and I have absolutely no idea what we are going to do next Thursday and I love it!!!

These guys have impressed the hell out of me so far with their work ethic and process that I'm going to honestly be okay with whatever they do as I have zero doubts that they haven't thought everything through 100%. So, if they think it's right for the team, I will not question it whatever my personal prejudices might be because in the end I'm just Jon Snow and I know nothing.

KEEP POUNDING!!!

I want a left tackle pretty badly, and if we don't get one I'll be annoyed.

But I'm not gonna melt down.

If we dont get a LT at 8 I am going ballistic.  There is absolutely no reason we shouldnt have an option of one of the top2 at 8.  I mean holy hell we had our chance at one of the top ones last year in a class that will grade out as historic for tackles and hurney did what hurney does.  Pick a motherfuging LT at 8 and then get cute if that is what Fit wants to do.  Dont fug up another perfect scenario to fix your line

This is a pretty good guess.  And as long as we have Darrisaw with a 1st round grade, and can pick up a second and still get him, I'll be ecstatic.

I have a feeling we want to trade back and take a CB in the first.  If we do, I hope we have a bunch of LTs with 2nd round grades, because I feel like this is our year to finally get one.

I do understand the CB position in this draft falls off pretty quickly shortly into the 2nd round.

Eff Darrisaw.  The knock on him is he is lazy and doesnt have that fire.

I want a tackle too, but I'm starting to feel like they are going to mess around, trade back, draft a CB, and then miss out on the top tackles as a run happens at the end of the first and before the Panthers pick in the second. They'll probably end up drafting a guy in the 6th or 7th rounds that doesn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of ever playing outside of preseason and camp. Or they are then forced to to trade up before the second round pick and loss whatever they gained from trading back. Either of those two scenarios are the most Panther things ever.

Let's not forget that for all his experience, this is Fitterer's first time calling the shots on draft day.

Several dozens of you have reached out to me for my tea leave reading on this conference.

Here is the take:
Fitterer and Rhule seem to be on the same page.  They seem to like each other.  Moving on.

We are reaching out to teams about moving back, or we could sit there at 8.  No mention of moving up.

I see the draft this way:

  • Picks 1-4, QB. (Even if a trade happens, 4 QBs are going.  Mac to SF?  Hope so.
  • Picks 5-7 Pitts, Sewell, and maybe Chase.  (the most elite players at their positions--we take Pitts or Sewell at #8, and that is it.  We are trading back if they are not there).
  • Picks 8-10 WR Sweet spot.  This is where you get a WR (Waddle or Smith) Slater, Waddle, and maybe a wildcard like QB, MLB, WR
  • Picks 11-15: CB Sweet spot:  ( Surtain, Horn, Newsome, Farley in range)_
  • Picks 16-20:  Edge Rusher Sweet Spot  Bunch of guys.  Why do edge rushers have weird names?
  • Picks 21-25:  Next Tier OL sweet spot (Vera Tucker, Darrisaw, Jenkins, etc.)

So what exactly was said:  Dropoff around 15-19, but the Panthers have 16 first round grades.  That is CB country, and I think there was mention of a press corner.  Ummm--Horn or Newsome?

There is one QB we like, giggle, giggle.  Nope. While I think they like Fields, they would rather teams think there is  QB we'd take. That makes a team move up above them to take a QB---a player we really do not want to take.  Frankly, I am starting to really like Fields and Lance, but I think the smart play is to give Darnold a shot and build around a QB--

THE TEA LEAVES HAVE SPOKEN:  Trading back from 8 to 15, for example, gets you a second rounder.  We are hoping to draft a #1 CB-- a press CB, something we did not have last year and Snow probably wants to jam and run with the #1 WR, and we are going to address T and WR in round 2.

Why is the third rounder important?  Ask Jeremy Chinn, who is a Panther because we used it to move up for a stud.

Or we could take a G/C there.

Rhule seemed so youthful and energetic at Baylor and immediately following us hiring him. Dude just looks beat down and like he's not enjoying himself these days. Losing sucks, but he's lost before at Temple and at Baylor early in his tenure at those stops. I just hope he isn't getting discouraged with the much more limited ways to address your roster in the NFL vs. at the college level.

Yeah.. I agree.  Something seems amiss with him.
