There is definitely a role for The Golden Calf of Bristol. He'll never have a chance to start. Everyone knows that. He won't take ANY practice snaps from Lawrence - EVER. He's an extremely versatile athlete that at the very least could be a goal line QB that takes those shots instead of Lawrence. And if he's on the field, the defense will have to prepare for him possibly throwing the ball. 

At the very least, he's a gadgety distraction. At best, he's a high character locker room influence that has a penchant for punching the ball in on the goal line. Hell Cam made a living doing that, but I'd gladly have had a punching bag come in and take those hits instead.

He is likely just a camp body, unless he has a fantastic preseason and makes the team... in which case, he earned it.

Let’s not forget he is among the greatest college players to ever play the game, and has kept himself in shape.

I don’t think we’ll still be talking about this week 1.  Doubtful he makes the team.

the fact they just landed Trevor adds to critique of it all.  First round picks on both the QB and RB this year.  And the a pretty good RB already on the roster.  

The Golden Calf of Bristol would only eat into situational football reps the real players need.   Trevor will need all the goal work he can get to develop. 

I mean if a struggling O was rolling with Alex Smith….then maybe the The Golden Calf of Bristol Hail Mary would be a better argument

I hear you loud and clear. But the Panthers had a couple of REALLY good running backs in 2011, when Cam Newton broke the QB single season rushing TD record. I remember a couple of hits that year that made me wince, even as big as that mofo was as a rookie. Reps are important, but wins are life. 

And don't discount the point of showing defenses different looks/options just to get them to spend precious practice time preparing against - distraction.

Letting Cam get reps and develop is all that mattered in 2011.   If that meant less opportunities for Double Trouble....or anyone else so be it.   That's where I think the Jags are.   Should be.

You're right, it definitely is. But... situations.

Remember that Thursday night Tampa Bay game in 2019? Even if we'd just drafted Trevor, it would be difficult not to put in a goal line specialist in that moment. Getting reps for your rookie QB is a hard sale to vets looking to win now.

      Yeah. That start to his career was about as bad as it can get. In New York, Meat grinder press corps, of the first degree,    When he came here he was on OC 3 - in year 3.  And people in this fan base that think they are smart, could not take that stuff into account.  Now, most of the smart ones are not Bryce Stans but Bryce gets 4 damned years free pass. At least 3  The fail of the organization AND fan base in general, fuging shamefully short sighted,  And the choking thing, players have to fail before they succeed. With very few exceptions. Last year was really his first meaningful, high stakes game. Okay, he didn’t play well. They learn from that, or are supposed to. You don’t throw out a guy with all those tools and with his rocky did him no favors background for not being perfect right away.  He might suck in the SB, but he proved a ton this year.    If we’d have had any patience he was the guy to use it on, not Bryce Young.

      Darnolds OC when he was drafted was Jeremy Bates who was fired. He hasn’t had an nfl job since then. his next head coach was Adam gates who was fired after two years and isn’t in the league anymore. then he gets traded to the Matt Rhule panthers. His first OC was a hired WAY too early Joe Brady who was fired midseason and basically had to restart his career as a get back coach in Buffalo. then it was Jeff Nixon, who’s currently the head coach for Syracuse. the next season was the best he’d ever looked, and it was the first time he had an actual nfl offensive coordinator calling plays for him. The less said about Matt Rhule the better. then he sits a year and ends up in Minnesota and the rest is history. maybe he just had poo awful coaches for the start of his career. Maybe we should be trying to find someone who flamed out on the jets. one who’s a religious weirdo  and likes to bang married women  that’s right baby, Zach Wilson redemption tour starts now

      Your last paragraph, painful. We suffered it all with Rhule and Fitterer and were rewarded with Bryce.  I’ll stop there, I have made hundreds of posts that say what I would say if I continued. 😂
